Sussex campaign shaping up
Village of Sussex - Two former village officials have filed 11th hour candidacy petitions that will likely assure contested races for the Village Board as well as Village President in the April 5 municipal elections.
Former Village President Mike Knapp and former Trustee Jim Batzko both filed necessary campaign documents late this morning to become candidates for village trustee, according to Village Clerk Susan Freiheit.
It appears likely they will be challenging incumbent trustees Tim Dietrich and Jason Wegner
Today is the deadline for filing nominating petitions, candidacy declarations, and campaign finance disclosure documents required of municipal candidates by state law. Freiheit said she expected incumbent trustee Jason Wegner to have his documents filed by the 5 p.m. deadline.
Two previously declared candidates for Village President, Trustee Greg Goetz and Hamilton School District Board President Gabe Kolesari have also filed candidacy documents.
Incumbent Village President Tony Lapcinski is not seeking reelection to a third term.
