Free Diabetes Screening
Sunday, September 30th, 2012 there is a free diabetes screening open to the public at The Golf Club at Camelot in Lomira (W192 Hwy 67 - 1 mile east of 41) 53048 http://golfcamelot.com It will definitely be open 11 am to 3 pm if not sooner and/or longer.
This whole development is made possible by the cooperation of Lions Clubs and the American Diabetes Association (ADA). To achieve the volunteers with skills towards doing the blood sugar readings, the individuals are attending from the Aurora Pharamacies network. A big thank you goes out to the Aurora organization for responding wholeheartedly on the call for volunteers.
Diabetes Screening Tests
Diabetes screening tests can detect the possibility of diabetes. Lions clubs often arrange for free diabetes screening tests to be performed in their communities. To conclude that a person has diabetes would require medical testing.
If anyone lacks in transportation to attend this event or any other comments, questions, or concerns, please call Kurt Roskopf 262-720-7031.
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age Americans, according Pub Med Health. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine's Pub Med Health, people with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are at risk for diabetic retinopathy. Early detection of diabetic retinopathy is a major factor in the prevention of visual loss. The visual screening is a separate service by the Lions that is not available at Camelot on Sept. 30th, but it is showing how diabetes is correlated to the Lions committment towards vision.
DIABETES AWARENESS
Diabetes is the 6th leading cause of death and affects almost every part of the body. It leads to blindness and heart disease. Diabetes cost the U.S. 132 billion dollars. Therefore, the Foundation has taken a proactive approach to get the word out about diabetes.
Lions sponsored Diabetes literature is always available.
National Diabetes Awareness Month is November. Wisconsin Lions Foundation routinely prepares and promotes use of local Club diabetes awareness publicity programming materials and tips. WLF has also distributed more than 60,000 diabetes informational brochures in several hundred communities on Diabetes Alert Day in March for the last three years.

Waukesha County Wednesday
We have the rate for renting the North hall at the Waukesha County Expo Center we are working off of. Our offer is to have businesses in Waukesha County inquire with us on advertising through this event and sponsoring this event and undertaking. We are not aware of any price break for having a partial day, so we are designing this to be an all day event. Participants, presenters, volunteers, exhibitors, groups, and so forth can make it as partial of a day as desired. This will follow like an Open House type format.
We are appealing to the commercial sector for this to have all Agencies and Organizations of Waukesha County present and have a booth there at no cost to them. This would also make it a free family day and resource fair.
Our idea for the community organizations is to have things for sale at the event and raise funds through those retail sales possibly thinking ahead to St. Patrick's Day.
We are accepting individuals to volunteer to be part of our organizational committee on this and shape it to be what is now known as Waukesha County Wednesday: Celebrate Communities and Family.
If you would like to in these ways or otherwise support this celebration and free family resource fair, please contact Kurt Roskopf: 262-720-7031 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting
