"Only 12 losing jobs from train cancellation."
Happy New Year! What a great year for those "thousands" of people who we were told would lose jobs due to the cancellation of the car-speed rail project! Turns out only 12 jobs will be lost!
Funny how that works. Remember how for months the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, Governor, Mayor, and other liberals were crying about the "thousands of jobs" that were going to be lost should Governor-elect Scott Walker kill the car-speed rail?
Well, Walker did indeed put a dagger in the heart of the car-speed nightmare (good riddance!) with the help of the federal government.
And the "thousands of jobs" lost morphed into a few hundred, then eighty, ...and now....twelve. Yes, 12 jobs will be lost due to the cancellation of car-speed rail.
Why aren't the liberals up in arms over the reporting from the newspaper? The inconsistencies from story to story? How the Journal/Sentinel attacked Scott Walker on an almost daily basis for his campaign promise to stop car-speed rail? They threw everything at him that they could muster. Yet, what about the total number of jobs lost to what is reality?
Just as Obama's Stimulus Bill (more accurately called the Generational Theft Act) was supposed to create "hundreds of thousands of jobs" we eventually learned that it created none. In fact, national unemployment levels have risen since the billion-dollar stimulus (that just had to be passed - quickly so the unemployment level wouldn't rise above 8%!) was passed - to almost 10% nationwide. And the little man-child pretending to be president is doing nothing to address job losses by getting big government out of the way of private businesses. No, Barry O. is way too busy signing off on irrelevant legislation like "don't ask don't tell" repeals, and do-nothing "Start" treaties...
Read the entire story about the actual number of jobs lost from the train death at:

And rather than writing comments to voice concerns over "blog inaccuracies" or what many of my liberal readers call "lies" when they cannot understand facts, why not contact the folks at the Urinal/Sentinel and ask how could they have gotten the total number of jobs lost from the cancellation of the car-speed rail so wrong??? Month after month after month??? Guess it's a New Year!!!

Same old pattern of "Let's whip em up with scare tactics, in order to make our point". It really is sad that the paper resorts to this method. Reminds me of when all of our kids we're going to starve if we did not pass the school lunch bill. The left actually wonders why we don't take their arguments seriously! Please!!!

"At its peak in 2012, the rail project was expected to create 4,732 direct jobs in construction"
Those are gone now. Gone. they will not be back. ANy multiplier effect from those jobs and stimulus for the local economy is gone. Gone. Never to come back.
Congrats.
I'm sure those 4,732 construction workers and apprentices, and general labourers who would have found jobs on this project, will thank you.
Are you actually able to understand anything that you read Hemmer?

Got the usual liberal response as expected - jman99 mentions the 4,732 (isn't it funny how the number is four-thousand seven hundred and thirty-two?) imaginary jobs lost from a pipe dream project. Any number could have been tossed out and the lefties would have believed it. Fake jobs from a dead project. Who cares?
Why not concentrate on the REAL jobs that have been lost due to Obama & Co.? And the government hires that have increased at a record rate - and record pay scale? And the pay for public sector jobs comes from the public via taxes. Public sector jobs generate no money. We NEED private sector jobs - real businesses that generate real profits to keep the economy going. That is EXACTLY what Obama & Co. do not want. They want people - maybe the imaginary 4,732 jobs lost on the car-speed rail project - to have 3 years of unemployment benefits. Get paid for three years to do nothing but rely on the government for your lifestyle. What a socialist concept!
Are you able to understand anything jman99? And again, I challenge you to use your real name. Bet 75% of your comments would cease if you had to say who you really are, rather than hide behind a fake moniker. How easy it is to criticize and make inane remarks!

Congratulations Amy! "the Badgers lost!" is the probably the first fact that I have
read on any of your blogs. Maybe in 2011 you can state a few more facts rather
than opinions---which are OK as long as opinions are not presented as facts.
ahemmer - Jan 01, 2011 8:36 PM
And remember - I am a blogger. I can write my own opinions and I state that I am a conservative. I don't get paid for what I do. Quite different from the Urinal/Sentinel and it's "journalists" (I use the term with a chuckle) that pretend to be "unbiased" but reports everything with a leftie slant. And this was one story even they couldn't spin. So what gives? What is fact and what is fiction? The 4,732 make-believe jobs that weren't even created but were "lost" cuz the white elephant taxpayer boondoggle car-speed train died? Too funny! Thanks for the laughs! Even the Urinal/Sentinel had to finally admit that only 12 REAL jobs were lost due to the slow-speed rail train being killed! Now - gotta go watch a movie with the kids. Good night and a Happy New Year to all! And Monday, January 3rd - starts the state of Wisconsin and the entire country back on the right track!!!! :)

So by your logic Hemmer, if say there was a road building project, this project should be shelved because it does not produce real jobs?
The number I used was the number from the article you posted the link to. I assume that when the cost benefit analysis was done they found that that number of persons would be employed in various phases of the construction project.
The jobs are not imaginary. they are the jobs of the workers who would be involved in construction of rail facilities, upgrading of signalling and the building and upgrading of rail bed. Those 4732 jobs would last the period of construction as they do with any construction job. Those are real hands on jobs for that period of time. The skills learned and developed during construction help those same workers find jobs later on.
jman99 - Jan 01, 2011 8:39 PM
And you distort truth to no end as well. No real journalist would do that.

Funny how the same libs that take offense at hearing me term a liberal rag like the Journal/Sentinel called something else see no problem with calling members of the Tea Party the very offensive term "Tea Baggers."
ahemmer - Jan 02, 2011 10:28 AM
And do you think that somewhere in Wisconsin that 4,732 people are sitting around crying cuz the train left the station without 'em? No. This total number of jobs was fake. From several thousand it went to a few hundred, then 80, then 12. Why not contact the folks at the Urinal/Sentinel and ask them how their reporting figures could have been so off? Maybe they could interview some of the imaginary 4, 732 people that lost jobs that never were? Oh, that's right - they don't exist! Never did!
And for a good laugh, read today's (Sunday, January 2nd) paper for a lot of Scott Walker stories and how he's got his work cut out for him! The challenges abound! He shouldn't think he has a "mandate!" Imagine if Barrett had won - think the Urinal/Sentinel would be questioning whether or not Barret was up for the job? Could keep his campaign promises? No. Not for a minute. Ah, the double-standard - alive and well at the URINAL/SENTINEL!!!! :)

Sorry Hemmer, those jobs are what economist call "opportunity costs" in this case the opportunity cost of not having the rail project built, in terms of labour, is over 4000 construction and related jobs.
The 12 permanent jobs which would have paid say an average of $20.00 per hour would amount to $1,664,000.00 per employee based on a 40 hour week and starting at age 25 and retiring at 65. So the total saved on permanent jobs would be:
$19,968,000.00
4000 Construction jobs based on $18.00 per hour base on what normally happens during a construction project:
Year 1: 2000 man years = $ 74,880,000.00
Year 2: 4732 man years = $177,166,080.00
Year 3: 1500 man years = $ 56,160,000.00
Total earnings for those three years by the work force:
$308,206,080.00
Plus the 12
$19,968,000.00
for a total economic benefit of:
$328,174,080.00
That's the earnings that have been lost Hemmer.
And they will never come back.
Congrats!!!!
I won't even go into the lost technology transfer from being able to see how those Spanish trains are built. You wouldn't be able to understand it.
Congrats Again!!!!

Why must we continue to spend money we don't even have on projects - like car-speed rail - that we do not even need? Face it. Any work done would have been paid for with taxpayer dollars - generating nothing. We need private businesses to be able to simply do business once again. To get real dollars back into circulation. Selling real products, getting people to feel secure in spending. Yet, the clueless "leader" in the White House, who couldn't manage a McDonalds if his life depended upon it, has no sense or knowledge about running a business, or even what really "stimulates" economic growth. Right now private business owners do not trust Obama - with good reason. And until Obama and Co. show a real honest desire to help private businesses (by getting out of the way), not much is going to change. The phony-baloney "jobs" paid for by taxpayers will do nothing to get that national unemployement level down. Right now it is hovering around 10% and hasn't budged. Why? Cuz people don't trust the president - and they know he doesn't know what to do - other than extend unemployment benefits for three years - so people can continue to rely on Uncle Sam for even longer! Whoppee!
