Finally!
After four six-year terms in office, United States Senator Herbie "do nothing" Kohl has announced he will not seek re-election. His term will end in January of 2013.
Can anyone name any major accomplishment by Kohl during his nearly twenty four years in the Senate? (Owning an NBA basketball team or hosting a milk stand at the State Fair don't count...) Besides being able to fund his re-election campaigns, helping to buy his seat every six years, nothing comes to mind. Oh, Kohl did sponsor some bill that required safety locks on handguns!!! And Herbie did come up with that slogan "nobody's Senator but yours" (was he referring to the Democratic Party?).
Last fall, the voters decided they had enough of "the maverick" - uber-leftie Senator Russ Finkgold - and gave him the boot. After 18 long years. Perhaps Wisconsin voters will continue to exhibit common sense and a desire to kick out the tax-and-spend, pro-entitlement mentality Democrats - and elect another strong conservative similar to Senator Ron Johnson. By all counts, it sure could happen. If Governor Scott Walker continues to work to make Wisconsin thrive - despite all the childish antics by the opposing party - and the voters realize how positive and strong our state can become after the dismal Doyle days, all bets are off.
On, Wisconsin!

But that was all along long time ago.
Has anyone even heard him talk or for that matter seen the man in the last 10 years?
In the end he just turned out to be another empty suit taking up space and voting the liberal party line.
Never cared for his views and I am glad he is finally going away.
Let’s hope we can get someone in there that will represent our state the way it should be and not another party Hack
Russ has got to be drooling at the mouth.

Russ maybe drooling but by the time this election comes into play Voter ID will be required.
So good luck with that Russ, the snow ball just melted.

were surrounding him . As the only opposition in that group I found it sad that he did
not treat his sheep better . He was so distant that he creeped me out to this day I
still get chills when I think of him . As for Feingold I liked him .I never met him but
he seemed decent many years ago . I do not know what happened to him but he
became undeserving .

Nice to see your coming around finally.
We all grow out of it sometime in life some later than others.
I agree with you 100%

Can anyone name anything besides the Naval contract that Herb was instrumental in?

He voted against the financial reform bill, as he felt it was too weak to have any effect.
He championed campaign finance and clean government. I understand wanting the right to spend as you desire to promote your views, but there are certainly negative aspects as well. Corruption happens, and Russ Feingold opposed that.
He supported a line-item veto even when President Bush was in office. Co-sponsored a bill with Paul Ryan for that one.
As far as conservatives protecting your privacy and rights, perhaps we should look for someone who opposed expanding executive authority to pry into our lives. Or at least voted to take away such privileges years later. In the Wisconsin delegation, guess we're still on Mr. Feingold. Both our Senators voted for reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act in February.
Russ Feingold lost, in part, because he ran on his actual record (pro-Obamacare) in a year when the way Obamacare was passed left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Also because Ron Johnson ran a campaign against Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid rather than against the record of the incumbent he managed to unseat.
Accuse him of grandstanding (maybe). Accuse him of being an "über-leftie" (socially, perhaps... fiscally and on guns, definitely not). Disagree with his politics, fine. But lapdog? Certainly not.
But you're right... Herb Kohl never did too much with his Senate seat.

Anyhow, what I find really amusing is the quote in an article in the 5/14 Journal/Sentinel: "Kohl's longtime Madison-based pollster Paul Maslin termed Kohl "an overwhelming favorite to be re-elected." Oh, really. How about asking Russ Finkgold about that?
Of course many names are popping up already of who will run to replace Kohl. Paul Ryan will not. If anything, Ryan would (and should!) run for President before he'd take a step down from his position as a congressman to become a senator. Mark Neumann or Mark Green might have good chances. Tammy Baldwin has been suggested as a Democratic rep, but the only ones who would vote for her live in the People's Republic of Madison. She wouldn't have a chance - thank goodness!
Kohl's retirement really throws a kink in the mix, and a good kink at that. 2012 is shaping up to be a very interesting political race. And with Voter ID in place, we could see an actual honest election in Wisconsin for the first time in many years!

sincere . As for complaining about corporations trying to get deals . Well guys that
is what corporations do ! We should have accountability with the legislature and
when a corporation is introduced in to the system that senator who brings them in
will be held accountable for the actions of the corporation for life . That would
help to reduce the amount of stupid ideas coming forth . Punishments should
include loss of pensions, pay, benefits and such . Then the legislature would have
skin in the process . By the way when they vote on healthcare and such the
people voting should be held to what they voted for ! Those special benefits they
have are over the top . Granted this is not the only way to help this process out
what are some of your ideas ?

On November 2, 2010, ACORN filed for Chapter 7 liquidation, effectively closing the organization.
As part of a re-branding effort by ACORN leadership, ACORN International changed its name in 2010 to Community Organizations International. As part of the effort by some chapters to stay afloat by severing ties with the national organization, California ACORN changed its name to Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, New York ACORN renamed itself New York Communities for Change, and an offshoot of the ACORN organization called Acorn Housing changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America yet has retained the same tax and employee identification numbers that it held under its former name.

since you thought that was breaking news it just proves my point . So just for you

together ,so as to make it simple for some to understand . Remember (A Rose by
any other name ?) . lol..... Did you really think it was breaking news . By the way
the few times that I have heard the Glenn Beck show one of them informed me of
this behavior by the corrupt Acorn group last Year . I am sure a PDLS told us that
it was a lie back then also ! lol........ Minty .
