The Mainstream Media - gotta love 'em
After a very heated and partisan race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Justice David Prosser won - again. He won the election fair and square to begin with. He has now won the recount. The votes were all tallied and recorded and certified. When everything was said and done - over $200,000.00 taxpayer dollars later - Prosser was STILL more than 7,000 votes ahead of challenger Joanne Kloppenburg.
This was a big race - with lots of outside interests and backers pouring money and support in for Kloppenburg. Keep in mind this was not because of her abilities (or even acknowledging her lack of), but because she supposedly represented to many a vote against Scott Walker. Twisted logic to say the least. Let's put Kloppenburg on the bench no matter what - no matter her lack of judicial experience - no matter that key figures (including Barack Obama and Jim Doyle) passed her over for judicial appointments. Not once, not twice, but five times in the past years. Yet, for some reason, many of the anti-Walker crowd felt she would have been just fine to serve Wisconsin as a Supreme Court justice.
Egads.
Finally Kloppy did something right. Rather than continue to prolong the agony and send the results on to the courts, she admitted defeat. Of course this didn't come quite as quickly as her premature victory speech, but what the heck.
So now, after weeks of big news stories and articles about the race and the recount, and with all the voters and candidates have been through over the past months, where does the good 'ole Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel chose to run this important story?
Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 - the top two stories - front page above the fold - "Girl Scouts council is one tough cookie" and another of the usual Walker/Republican-bashing articles "Panel votes for corporate tax breaks." Hmmmmm.
Okay. Oh, found it!!! On the bottom of the front page, right-hand side, there is a small write-up "Kloppenburg concedes race" (after 2 paragraphs, the story goes to page 10A). Right next to it, on the left-hand side is the newest focus of the the anti-Walker crowd - "3 GOP senators' recall elections OK'd."
Wonder why the Kloppenburg defeat wasn't a major above-the-fold large headline story? or, for that matter, how about a headline stating a Prosser victory?

Supreme Court. It makes one wonder why Tommy Thompson didn't appoint
someone with lower court experience. With 16 appellate court judges and
several hundred circuit court judges to choose from, Tommy chose someone with
zero, nada, diddly-squat for judicial experience. The appointment was purely
political. Prosser didn't have to convince the public he was qualified for the job.
He didn't have to work hard to earn the public's trust. No campaigning. The job of
Supreme Court Justice was simply handed to him on a silver platter as a reward
for his loyalty to one specific political party. He didn't get to where he is by what
he knew, he got there by who he knew.
Tell me our judicial system isn't just a bit suspect.

Are you accusing them of burrying the story on the front page??????

That's a great line! :-)

not able to keep up . She pointed out that when she made a stink about this issue
the paper had it as top story ! But since she finally came to her senses they gave
it two paragraphs in the corner ! One of you even said that it was not news for
everyone knew that Prosser won ! If true why did you PDLS's allow her to waste
our tax dollars on something we all knew she lost ? I am accusing you and the
Urinal of burying it under the Top Heading ! Frankly I did not see it until Hemmer
talked about it ! Anything under Top Billing is buried ! Just ask any Movie Star . Or
anybody with gumption .

No I didnt. Not at all.
"She pointed out that when she made a stink about this issue the paper had it as top story !"
Because that was a surprising new development with alot of impact.
"If true why did you PDLS's allow her to waste our tax dollars on something we all knew she lost ? "
Despite not being a NSWP or whatever, I would've stopped her if I could. But it *WAS* her right to do so.
I am accusing you and the Urinal of burying it under the Top Heading !
Its true. I did it. It was all my idea.
"Frankly I did not see it until Hemmer talked about it ! "
So you buty a whole newspapaer and read ?what? percentage of it?
"Anything under Top Billing is buried ! Just ask any Movie Star .
Gabby Hayes?
"Or anybody with gumption ."

And this blog is not about David Prosser's experience. It is about Kloppenburg and how the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel, in all it's liberal glory, decided that the Kloppenburg loss (or Prosser win) wasn't really that important anymore. I disagree. The story SHOULD have been front page - above the fold - major large headline. You can bet if Kloppenburg would have suddenly discovered 7,000 plus votes to win, the paper probably would have run a special addition to gleefully announce it.

interesting. I thought it was incumbent upon the POTUS to nominate federal
judges. Ah, but what do I know? NOT MUCH!
You know, MGarber's comment is so sensible, I think it should be the definitive
answer on this subject. If everyone is expecting something to happen it's really
not worthy of headline grabbing attention when it does.
Now, let's talk about me and my headline grabbing 'One Nation' bus tour!
Am I the best doggone American patriot or what!

of the path and what it could do ! Was it a top story at all ? We all knew the o was
no good as a president but we all knew he was going to be voted in ! Was his
Becoming a president head line news ?? We all knew Kloppenbird was a nut and
would ask for a recount if she lost ! Was it headline news ? We all saw the
housing market fall but we still see it in headline news after the fact ! Funny how
your beliefs are proven wrong when you take the time to compare it to what has
happened ! My prior comment would be headline news but we all knew your
beliefs are a little screwy ! In that case your belief worked . lol...

And the American people got stuck with another liberal judge intent on manipulating the law in accordance with their own agenda... Thanks, Tommy! (Let's hope he doesn't run for Herb Kohl's senate seat - we don't need more RINO's in the Senate!)

However, the point of my post is to point out how a liberally-biased mainstream news outlet in our state - the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel - treated the Kloppenburg loss as "nothing to see, move along." Even though the nation has focused attention on our state re: Walker, Madison, and the Supreme Court race, the state papers do have a responsibility to keep the people informed. After headline story upon story (above the fold, front page) about the race itself and the immediate aftermath, when all was said and done, the Journal/Sentinel donated a few paragraphs, moved the article to page 10A, and that was it. Obviously, they are no turning their attention on promoting the Republican recalls. (You know, the ones where the "unbiased" Government Accountability Board" has decided it's OK to go ahead with all the Republican recalls, but they just can't seem to get their act together to get those Democrat recalls on the voting schedule....)

held Senate that confirmed Adelman. If they thought he was too liberal, or ... too
whatever, they could have blocked his nomination. Denying liberals an opportunity to
manipulate the law doesn't take a great deal of effort:

RINO's in the Senate!"
You're assuming he would win? Judging by the polls Republicans have somewhat
fallen out of favor with the majority of Wisconsinites.

How can you figure republicans are as you put it out of favor when it was you liberals that turned the SC race into an election on Liberal Public Union lovers Vs. Conservative Walker backers.
Who the heck just won or should I say who just conceded.
After wasting Millions of dollars on a lark and declaring victory.
She is and would have been a true Liberal Robot.
Prosser won months ago just had to wait for the tomato grower to concede.
