The Individual Mandate for Dummies

(Thanks to my conservative sister, Moe, for sending me this easy-to-understand e-mail, and for creator Emily Kim giving me permission to post her cartoon).
A few days after the pathetic U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare (which, in all honesty, needs to be called "Obamatax"), Mitt Romney's campaign has seen a huge upsurge in campaign funds - thousands of donations in the $10 - $25 range - from people upset with the courts blatant disregard for the U.S. Constitution. Good. Let's keep it going. What happens in November is monumental - and the voters will decide if the United States is saved (with the election of Romney) or destroyed by Obama and his socialist minions.
In regards to Obamacare, if anyone needs to be reminded, Obama & Co. insisted all along that the "individual mandate" was NOT a tax!!! (It was to be considered a "fine" if one did not wish to purchase health insurance). Yet, with unsolicited and unexpected assistance from Chief Justice John Roberts, using his own pen, the Obamacare mandate was re-written - and deemed A TAX. And this, folks, will be the biggest tax increase ever forced upon the American people - if it is not repealed.
The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel's Business section ("What the Court's Ruling Means for Consumers - 7/1/12) provided a few insights into how health care costs are expected to rise with the implementation of Obamatax:
- new levies under the law, such as the 10% tax on tanning services, stay put
- Most of the mandates don't start until 2014,. That's when most Americans will be required to carry insurance or pay the penalty at issue in the Supreme Court case. The penalty will start at $95 per year, or up to 1% of a person's income - whichever is greater.
- Most consumers can expect to keep seeing increases in premiums and co-payments because the underlying cost of health care is expected to rise.
The brief article in the Journal/Sentinel doesn't even touch many of the other "hidden" costs, rules, regulations, dangers, etc. in the mess of legislation that most Americans do not want. Face it. Obamacare is bad - bad for Americans and bad for America. Obamacare needs to be repealed and Mitt Romney is up to the task.
The cartoon above sums up the absurdity of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
(Interesting to note, the approval ratings of the U.S. Supreme Court took a huge nosedive after the Obamacare ruling came down. )

my income ? My holdings ? My status as an American ? lol... I find it funny that I am
against the otax when dolts like dubya, carl, and jmann will be the ones suffering
under it ! lol... Either way I will make life better for myself , and laugh at those that

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Voter support for President Barack
Obama's healthcare overhaul has increased following the U.S.
Supreme Court's ruling upholding it, although majorities still
oppose it, a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday showed.
Among all registered voters, support for the law rose to 48
percent in the online survey conducted after Thursday's ruling,
up from 43 percent before the court decision. Opposition
slipped to 52 percent from 57 percent."
That's a huge shift in just a few days.

payments because the underlying cost of health care is expected to rise. - Hemmer
Correct - if the Dr's, CEO's, drug companies, and insurance companies, et al are
allowed to rape the general public with the same profit margin. Heaven forbid it be
suggested that they expect less profits.
Wake up you stupid tea party sheep!!!!

According to Obama's own author of the ObamaTaxCare, a famiy of 4 in WI that is currently insured will see their premiums go up ~$200 per MONTH because of this TAX. And Seniors will see their Medicare budget cut by $500,000,000 to shift into a pool of users that will make the demand go up and the supply go down for doctors and clinics.
Whether we intend to or not, those of us in the middle class that are against ObamaTaxCare are helping other working families and seniors while the Dems and Obama are taking them down a notch or two.
ObamaTaxCare will hurt the elderly and the middle class while it widens the divide between rich and poor.

I especially like the closing statement about how easy it will be to push over the styrofoam Greek pillars Obama uses on his Cope and Blame campaign tour.

"Speaking Monday, Romney campaign senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom reiterated the former Massachusetts governor’s stance, saying that while Mr. Romney opposed the mandate, it should not be defined as a tax.
“So [Romney] agrees with the president … he believes that you shouldn’t call the tax penalty a tax, you should call it a penalty or a fee or a fine?” asked Chuck Todd, host of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown.
“That’s correct,” Mr. Fehrnstrom replied."

The president lied. Big time.
And you seize upon what a Romney campaign advisor had to say about tax vs. fine vs. fee vs. whatever as if its some "gotcha" moment? Never mind that Barry Obama and his socialist cronies LIED to the American people all along about the "tax" and other aspects of Obamacare (like how it wouldn't fund abortions...until it will fund abortions...).
Four other key points about Romneycare:
1) Romneycare was done in a small state on a small scale. If people didn't like it, guess what? They could leave the state.
2) The state Democrats in office (the majority) wrote the most of the legislation for Romneycare. Originally, Romney specified NO tax/penalty on those who refused to buy the insurance. Guess who changed that stance? Romney? No. Wrong. The Dems.
3) The majority of people in Massachussettes WANTED Romneycare. Not surprising for a very liberal state...
4) Massachusettes didn't hire thousands of IRS agents to go after people to enforce all the rules/regulations/taxes, etc. associated with health care reform.
Obamatax is not the same as Romneycare. And expect Obama to ignore this "crowning achievement" as the campaign for Prez draws nearer. (And the White House is STILL insisting the individual mandate is NOT a tax. Perhaps they need to invite Chief Justice Roberts over to discuss...) Obama knows that most people don't want Obamacare. He knows that Romney will get a big boost in support from those opposed to this huge tax increase.

refused to purchase insurance when they could afford it?
jman99 - Jul 02, 2012 1:36 PM
If you actually read it there is no enforcement provision in the ACA that would cause the IRS to hound if you did not pay the penalty. So that's just an outright lie.
"1) Romneycare was done in a small state on a small scale. If people didn't like it, guess what? They could leave the state."
Folks who didn't agree with the Revolutionaries were asked to leave ( were put on boats and shipped out as well ) There's lots of countries on the map hemmer, if you don't like it you can leave.
"2) The state Democrats in office (the majority) wrote the most of the legislation for Romneycare. Originally, Romney specified NO tax/penalty on those who refused to buy the insurance. Guess who changed that stance? Romney? No. Wrong. The Dems. "
Willard signed on when it was explained to him how the freeloader system would work.
"3) The majority of people in Massachussettes WANTED Romneycare. Not surprising for a very liberal state..."
The majority of people wanted Health Care in Mass. Just as the Majority of Americans want Health Care.

refused to purchase insurance when they could afford it?"
Don't they already do that when they come asking for all the stuff your plan does not cover?
jman99 - Jul 02, 2012 1:47 PM
And in an op-ed published in USA Today in 2009, before the national health care law passed, Romney used the word “tax” when describing what federal lawmakers could learn from Massachusetts.
“Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages ‘free riders’ to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others,” Romney wrote."
