Face of Evil II
I recently published two posts on the existence of evil as a palpable entity in the world (Face of Evil and Dual). I recommend re-reading them. Now we have another horrific example, the Sandy Hook massacre of Kindergarten children by a 20-year-old misfit. Adam Lanza was an obscure loner who, while considered strange, was not thought to be insane. Strangely, the divorce court gave his mother complete control over his affairs. It would be interesting to know why.
After an altercation with his mother, he took one of her guns and shot her in the face, a particularly brutal way to shoot someone. He then went to a nearby Elementary School with which he or his mother had no connection, broke in by shooting out the glass in the door and, armed with two handguns, embarked on a rampage. The principal and the school psychologist tried to stop him but were no match for his guns and were shot down dead. (One wonders if things would have ended differently if one of those school officials had been armed. A moot point because the school was a gun free zone.)
He then proceeded to a Kindergarten classroom and shot 27 children to death, finally taking his own life as the police closed in, for a total casualty count of 31 killed including him and his mother. There is no conceivable motive for this most horrendous of acts. No level of insanity would impel such an act, and Adam was not psychotic by all accounts.
As usual, we are currently engaged in an orgy of attempted explanations and preventive action proposals, from greater gun control although no-one has shown how that would have prevented this event outside of complete gun confiscation, which actually has been proposed by one legislator, to greater concern for mental health. Another legislator proposal has been to ban "semi-automatic handguns" in complete ignorance of the fact that all modern handguns, including revolvers, are semi-automatic--firing each time the trigger is pulled. An assault weapons ban is completely irrelevent to this situation in that none were involved. Tighter restrictions on gun sales would also have been ineffective in that the two weapons he used were legally and conventionally purchased by his mother.
So, what to do, for we must do something in accordance with standard liberal philosophy, other than wring our hands? The answer is, there is nothing we can do to prevent this type of perpetrator from committing heinous and inexplicable acts or horror. What we are dealing with, as I have previously stated, is a palpable force of evil. If you prefer demonic possesion, I suppose that's close enough. Evil is loose in the world and getting more powerful with each passing day. Even in pacifist countries like Norway, evil performs. I won't talk about some of the atrocities occurring daily in the Middle East and Africa, and other places around the world.
Gun control, even confiscation, is not the answer. The British are considering banning knives to stem the increase in violence following their gun ban. The only protection against evil is to oppose it with force. Yes, I'm talking about an armed responsible public. Sandy Hook is just the latest in a series of senseless mass killings that could have been prevented or mitigated by armed civilian opposition. Not in every case, of course, but at least potential victims would have a fighting chance against the encroachment of evil.
I know this is controversial, but I am open to a better suggestion. (Please, not forcible confiscation of 17 million guns.) I firmly believe that the only way to defeat evil is to confront it with effective means.

As a military man I'm sure you know there is not much difficulty to turn semi-auto into full auto.

questions put forth to them ! Even when you use there comments back at them . It is
a sad day when PDLS's do not put people and children before their ideals . The same
ideals that have killed millions throughout the world yet they see themselves as
caring people . From this all can realize that Mr. Lanza was a PDLS !

AR-15s are the civilian modification of an assault rifle used by police and military forces and can cost $1,000 or more, according to the Post.
"The Bushmaster .223 rifle was on sale at Dunham's Sports in Mishawaka on Sunday and Monday. It was listed at $779.99, a savings of $320.
An employee of Dunham's said they had sold out of the rifle as of Monday afternoon."

You can understand why they are so effective:
"The lightweight .233 bullets travel at 3,000 feet per second and explode throughout the tissue when they enter a target, the Washington Post reported."
Heck of a delivery system.
Way different than the .75 smooth bore musket that had a range of possibly 50 yards and was as accurate as the .72 ball was bouncing down the bore. shot rate was 17 shots in 3 minutes that the founders carried at the time of the Second Amendment.

cloud your brains ! Did you see in the AP report that mass shootings are at a low ?
Did you look at the statistics that show that mass shootings happen in no gun zones
? Yet your answer is to make more no gun zones !! Kind of stupid is it not ? Can any
PDLS point out Why we would ban guns when places that do ban guns like Chicago
and Washington DC do ban but they have the highest gun shootings in the country ?
That would be stupid to ban guns in more places ! Well unless you are not thinking
anyway .

Only a certifiable idiot would claim such a thing.
Al: I would ask you to ban what ever organism this is from comment.

"Distinguished forensic pathologist Dr. Martin L. Fackler, observed when he was conducting wound research for the U.S. Army several years ago ("Wounding Patterns of Military Rifles," International Defense Review, Volume 22, January, 1989), that in tissue simulants such as ballistic gelatin, , the 55-grain, M-193 military bullet lost stability, yawed (turned sideways) 90 degrees, flattened and broke at the cannelure (groove around the bullet into which the cartridge case is crimped) after penetrating about four to five inches. The forward portion of the bullet generally remained in one piece, accounting for 60% of its originally weight. The rear, or base portion of the bullet, broke into numerous fragments that may also penetrate tissue up to a depth of three inches. Dr. Fackler also noted that a relatively large stretch cavity also occurred, violently stretching and weakening tissue surrounding the primary wound channel and its effect was augmented by tissue perforation and further weakening by numerous fragments. An enlarged permanent cavity significantly larger than the bullet diameter resulted by severing and detaching tissue pieces. "

amazing ! Did you ever see a machette wound ? Much larger entry wound , not to
mention the huge exit wound ! I heard knives are talked about being banned in some
countries . Must be a lot of Lanza thinkers living there . Yep , to many people being
killed with blades ,I wonder how that happened . Was it not that long ago when an
OWS used a car to ram people standing for the Tea Party ? Yep but that mass
running over is OK'd with the PDLS side of thinking !! I wonder how large the hole
from that car is ,huh jman ?

Maybe a good start is to put God back in the schools. The only ones hurt by that poor decision were the anti-God/anti-religion crowd. A very small minority.
Now that we took God out, everyone is suffering. If you believe or not, it would make some sense to at least try allowing God back in. What is there to lose?

Wikipedia – “An assault rifle is a select-fire (either fully automatic or burst capable) rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. It is not to be confused with assault weapons.[1] Assault rifles are the standard service rifles in most modern armies. Assault rifles are categorized in between light machine guns, which are intended more for sustained automatic fire in a light support role, and submachine guns, which fire a pistol cartridge rather than a rifle cartridge.”

Have you ever seen a semi automatic machette? Have you ever seen a knife that can deliver 100 initially fatal stab wounds in a second?
Neither have I.
And besides, Jman makes a good point: why buy a gun if you are unfamiliar with what it and its ammunition can do?
Here's a picture of what the round does in ballistic jelly:

Isn't that a beautiful pattern?
Does it make you uncomfortable WFB?

Stop it.
God never left the schools.
I’m so tired of this “God isn’t allowed in schools” nonsense. Kids pray in school every day and no one stops them. They pray individually and in groups. They gather around the flagpole and pray. There are literally thousands of Christian student groups at public schools all over the nation. They meet for Bible study and prayer sessions before and after school in classrooms and elsewhere on public school campuses. The only thing that can’t be done is the government cannot force a student to pray or read the Bible or be forced to listen to someone else pray.

Who is going to judge who is responsible enough to own and use a .223 Bushmaster? what are the criteria? what tests? what background checks and how deep? the second amendment say nothing about being responsible, how do you get around that? Do you retest after a period of time, because people change over time.
Walk a down town street today, and point out the persons you would feel comfortable carrying a gun. I'll bet you'd be wrong in about 50% of the cases.

God has no super powers against bullets. He and his son have proven totally impotent against bullets in schools. He may be good with fire and brimstone, but that's more of a WMD effect.
Although if he did do a couple of WMD effects in order to rid the USA of its guns, it might be a good thing.

It is always good to hear from you and listen to your sage wisdom as it comes “dropping like dew from the morning veil to where the crickets sing.”
I have to say, Al, and it pains me to say this, but – You have let me down, big time.
The history of mankind is replete with examples of “evil”, or “satin” (or whatever religious symbology you prefer to use), raising its ugly head and unleashing unspeakable horror on its subjects.
But that very same history includes “men of good will, standing and fighting for what is right, fighting to overcome the forces of evil, fighting for a world that offers peace, freedom and justice for all.”
Where would the world be today if the “greatest generation” simply said – “Oh, well, evil exists, always has, always will, there is not much we can do about it?”
Sorry Al – your rationalization is nothing more than a cop-out that you have employed to safeguard you rather extreme political ideology.
Al – just think about the victims of the next Sandy Hook, or Columbine or Virginia Tech.
They are waiting Al. Waiting for those men of good will to stand-up and say – ENOUGH!
Pierre Del Norte - Dec 18, 2012 9:54 AM
Some people suggest that the “Sandy Hook Tragedy” is the result of taking God out of the public schools.
I have a far more plausible explanation. I believe the rise in gun violence in this country is more tightly correlated with the advent of the “conservative revolution”. We have witnessed conservative republicans enact their agenda for the last 30 years. They have enacted political solutions for all kinds of problems – both real and imagined.
Now we are living with their consequences. Sandy Hook is but one example of the consequence of their “solution.”
What is their “solution” to the epidemic of gun violence? Flood the country with more guns, more powerful gun, higher capacity clips, and more efficient killing machines, arm the teachers, arm the citizens, arm the good guys.
Let’s inflict the whole country with the crippling paranoia that was once the sole domain of the truly “Gun Crazy Crowd.”
The fact is, the GOP has become the party of stupid ideas. From Grover Norquist, to the NRA, to supply side economics, to climate change – The list of stupid ideas goes on and on and on.
What will it take to end this insanity?

from people who do not follow the rules ! I do not understand how a person thinking
can come up with this comment . :" jman99 -
Who is going to judge who is responsible enough to own and use a .223
Bushmaster?" duh ! the test is being an American !!!
(what are the criteria?) Not to be a criminal , or an illegal ! ( what tests?) Id's !!!
(what background checks and how deep?) Only deep enough to determine the above
rules !!! ( the second amendment say nothing about being responsible,) Duh !!
(how do you get around that?) You do not go around it !!! (Do you retest after a
period of time, because people change over time.) Only when the above rules are
broken !!!!
