As for the Consititution being under attack: 2nd Amendment anyone? Gun rights? Or 1st Amendment for that matter - freedom of speech? Look at how the lefties are looking to shut down talk radio. Or how certain terms and phrases can land you in the slammer. Egads.

WFB: The socialist Nazi's of yesterday have a lot more in common with the Democratic Party in the U.S. of A. today. As for the KKK - remember good ole' Robert Byrd? Democratic U.S. Senator (longest serving). Voted against the Civil Rights Act. Also, big shot in the Klan: Byrd held the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops. Wow! Yet, AOK by the Dems?!? GWB and MGarber: Please read the article I cited over again. The mother in question did NOT leave bruises on her daughter. She spanked her. It was her right as a parent to discipline her child. From the article: "Prosecutors described it as a “simple, straightforward” spanking case that didn’t involve a belt or leave bruises." In addition, Texas law does not outlaw spanking.

For this, the Dept. of Family and Protective Services stepped in and took this woman's child away. The mother in question was forced to pay a fine ($50 to a Children's Advocacy Center) and take parenting classes UNTIL the Dept. deems her worthy of getting her child back.

Exactly. The state/government stepping in, in an effort to execute more control. Just like the government telling people what their children can and cannot eat at school. Or whether or not people can even sell a certain size soda to customers! Insane.

As for spanking, whether or not you agree or disagree, it should be left up to parents as to how to discipline their children - within reason of course. Many children these days are growing up little monsters cuz mommy and daddy want to be "best friends" rather than parents. Kids do whatever, whenever, with no consequences. Maybe if more was expected of children in regards to behavior, we'd see less of the violence and criminal behavior and disrespect we see in many young people these days.

3) Propoganda manipulators - controlling the press. The media does their bidding. Wow - this one really hits home - with the media these days better known at the "Obama Fan Club" - helping Barry whenever they can and keeping the "low information voters" in the dark.
4) The cult of the Leader. Look at how the left fawns all over Obama - refusing to admit to any flaws. Promoting him as "cool." He can do no wrong - he is never to blame for anything. Look at how the Germans idolized Hitler - until it was too late.
5) Use of diversions (like class warfare and any major crisis (whether created or real) to draw attention away from what is happening to the country. The Germans used the Reichstag fire of 1933 to suspend civil liberties under emergency decree. Obama is using class warefare and the economy to re-make the the country and the middle class.
6) Attacking and creating "scapegoats" to blame for their own misdeeds (like Obama and the Dems repeatedly blaming Bush or Republicans for their own mistakes).

Sounds like the Romney Campaign. Heck even those on the religious right who previously accused him of belonging to a cult, were suddenly having " road to Damascus" moments where they had huge pressure to recant and make Romney main stream in their eyes for votes. It was sickening.

The biggest help Obama is getting is from Fox News which has become the provisional media arm of the Republican Party.

Hemmer, when did you get the degree in Psychology?

Most kids who get spanked have huge issues with self worth when they are older.

People who have issues with self worth equally have less regard for the worth of others.

You have to ask yourself, If you really love another person, why would you ever hit them to modify their behaviour? Spanking and hitting is a sign of frustration and an inability to cope with a situation by the person who is in charge.

Too many wear the scars of this both physical and mental for the rest of their lives.

Actually if you read the article, he was not arrested. He was placed in psychiatric hospital. Not that I'm condoning it, but since 9/11 and the extensive powers that were granted under Bush, the idea of a threat has become cornerstone in pro-active police work.

With the other , you are reaching.

The third is interesting in that even the framers figured the constitution had a "best before" date and was not sacred in its words or intent.

jman - you can't pick and choose when you believe "officials" and when you believe the ACLU. Read the article again and look up the workd "arrest"

The third instance cited was a preacher being arrested for praying on the street. I don't care if it is an anti war protestor or a Christian preacher- both these occurrances were wrong.

Those 1st 2 cases are almost certainly unconstitutional and are (in the 1st case, and probably will in the 2nd) being challanged by the ACLU.
(You *are* a fan of the ACLU, right Mucho?).

The 3rd one is a case of violating a longstanding local (we aint talkin Big Brother here) ordinance which probably should be challanged as well.

I do happen to respect much of what the ACLU is and does.

As for the trend of the Left to cherry pick the Constitution and call for it to be more flexible and "living" - that relates to the following quips in hemmer's BLOG:

"Being self-sufficient is considered a threat to the government." (Obamacare's insistence that public purchase their product)

"Using the "N" word is considered "hate speech" but writing and singing songs about raping women and killing cops is considered "art". (Selective application of 1st amendment)

"Being stripped of the ability to defend yourself makes you "safe". (Current attack on 2nd ammendment instead of root cause)

"Politicians think that stripping away the amendments to the constitution is really protecting the rights of the people." (Pretty broad statement here)

While I agree with the irony found in many of the one liners above, blaming it all on one party is ridiculous. All the "good intent" behind legislation is lost whenever it intrudes on our God given rights. The Constitution (w/ Bill of Rights)does as good a job as any stating what those are.

I was waiting for someone to mention that point of Amy's (she doesnt identify the author, but obviously by repeating it, she supports it) list. Each of the other items consist of a "good thing" reflected against a "bad thing". Which "thing" in this item is good? What is the desired change?

BTW. This whole item has to do with social norms and has nothing to do with the way anybody's "Running" anything.

Its about justified vengeance.
And its about 2 hours long.

it is NOT a "great" movie (I had issues with some of the editing, and its length), but it will, I beleive, be recognized as an important movie. The acting, from everyone, is top notch.

It IS sort of amazing that this country has largely ignored the legacy of slavery (one of our less-than-exceptional moments) in terms of popular culture. Alex Haley (Roots) took a good shot at it, but that was pretty much it asside from Blazing Saddles.

Its IS hate speech if its used from a place of hate.
Django Unchained used the Nword like water, but it was effective.
Blazing Saddles chickened out and inferred it, but it it was effective as well.

You know our nation is run by idiots when included in the President’s “fiscal cliff” tax hike bill is more pork, which of course he did promise to have no more pork and full transparency if we elected him and then reelected him, that includes, well, yes, these tax breaks:
Tax breaks for Hollywood producers who shoot their movies and TV shows in the U.S., at a cost of about $430 million through 2014. (how interesting is that. Isn’t Hollywood one of President Obama’s largest supporters?)

Thanks Mr B., I was wondering if any republicans were going to complain about
the corporate welfare that the cliff "deal" was filled with. The corporate welfare
given out is almost seven times as much as the unemployment spending!
I doubt many know that corporate welfare spending is higher then the welfare for
people.
The "sandy" disaster relief bill is also pork laden and shouldn't be passed as is.

I was never arrested for expired tags the couple of times that I let them expire.
I was given warnings and tickets but I was never arrested.
I don't know of anyone who was ever arrested for expired tags on their plates.

GWB: Actually, the Republicans in Washington D.C. were stuck between a rock and a hard place when it came to the so-called "fiscal cliff." They voted to keep the Bush tax cuts in place. Unfortunately, a caveat of that bill was that taxes would be raised on those making over $400K per year. Obama and the Dems got their wish to tax, tax, tax the rich.
The Republicans were damned if they did and damned if they didn't in regards to voting for the crappy bill that came out at the last minute (after we jumped off the cliff, then jumped back on). They did it for the good of the country - to save the taxpayers from even worse had we just gone over the cliff and remained there. That is really what Obama and the Dems would have liked - higher taxes on all, plus a huge cut to the military. The Republicans do not have to "take ownership" of this crappy bill. Obama and the Dems are in charge. Obama has to take ownership...for once?....a....maybe forget that...he seems to avoid doing so at all costs...He just likes to spike the football when his henchmen (and women) do his work for him...

Do you mean that Republicans need to become pro-entitlement in order to expand the base? I don't agree with that in any sense. I think there are still a majority of people out there who do not want a life of dependency ala Obama & the Dems. I would venture to say that many people who are supported by the government right now are not happy about it and still do have some dignity left. They would like to better their situations by working their way OUT of a life of dependency, rather than continually voting Democratic to remain in a life of reliance from big government.
I would also venture to say that a majority of the populace needs to hear the right conservative message - from the right messenger - smaller government and stronger defense and less taxes. In contrast, the message from the Dems: "You didn't build that" and "we'll give you your every want and need as long as you vote for us" plays well for the "low information voter" and those who do not know any better, nor believe they are capable of doing great things on their own WITHOUT Uncle Sam giving them handouts.

Amy, what I meant is that Republicans campaigned on "expanding the base" and the Bush tax cuts shrink the tax base. No reforms...just an extension of a program that was to expire if spending was not cut to pay for them, that was the reason they were supposed to expire. What the "low information voter" calls a tax increase was in reality returning to normal rates, now we have continued to starve the beast as we whine about deficits. Yes of course spending needs to be cut accross the board with defence included. There is far too much waste, fraud and duplication in government that would go along way at paying for the parts that do work. Yes some parts do work to better OUR lives unfortunately many do not and need to be changed.

Now Obama says the tax cuts that the Republicans don’t want (which is also another dishonest statement) will help the middle-class immensely. Even Obama as a Senator was against these tax cuts. But now he is in favor. John Kerry de’ ja vu?

Carl Hicks: FIrst of all, a common myth is the "Bush Tax Cuts." No, they weren't "tax cuts" per se. They are specific set "tax rates." And when more people are allowed to keep more of their own hard-earned money, the economy benefits because people have more money to spend.
Although, I do think that ALL working Americans should have some "skin in the game" - no matter how little or how much they earn. We all should contribute a reasonable amount in federal taxes to fund very specific limited government functions that individuals cannot do on their own - like national defense. Right now, almost half the country pays NO federal taxes. Yet, almost half the country has become the "takers" - living off of Uncle Sam - who lives off those who pay taxes. It is a vicious cycle that needs to stop. Make everyone contribute - no matter how much or how little - and I bet more Americans would notice and put a foot down to demand a stop to out-of-control spending and end the fiscal hole we continue to dig for ourselves.

Like the veteran who fought for this country needs to have “skin in the game” and “contribute” no matter how little. Sure they fought and were possibly injured but they need to “contribute” too!

And the person on Social Security Disability, it doesn’t matter what disability they have it isn’t societies fault that they are unable to hold a job; they just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and learn how to fly right. That goes for the person receiving Social Security after retiring as well; sure you were taxed for a lifetime for that benefit, but you need to have “skin in the game” also no matter how little.

And of course the person at the bottom of the pay scale needs to have “skin in the game” as well. All those benefits the government provides you with (food stamps, housing assistance, unemployment) aren’t cheap and it’s MY TAX DOLLARS that pay for it.

We can’t allow any “free rides” in this country for people too cheap to pay their own way!!!

President Obama is using signing statements to object to certain provisions of acts of Congress which he has signed. Objecting to laws is not the same as failing to follow them. It could be that he feels the other parts of the law are sufficiently important that he has to accept the other parts put in place.

Abiding by the Constitution when it conflicts with laws passed by Congress is the appropriate remedy. It's what we do as citizens, to gain standing to challenge the laws in the judicial branch. For an example, see the extensive reporting when Obamacare hit the Supreme Court about whether the issue was ripe for consideration.

WFB, if you mean they didn't like some parts of it (failure to extend the tax brackets for higher incomes, maintaining government spending) and like others (making the Bush tax cuts permanent for lower and middle income brackets), I completely agree. Laws are complicated, and so are the reasons for voting for and against them.

From the latest Social Security Admin Trustees (Geithner) report (keep in mind these numbers got markedly worse as the "summer of recovery" fell flat:

"The Trustees project that the assets of the OASI Trust Fund and of the combined OASI and DI Trust Funds will be adequate over the next 10 years
under the intermediate assumptions. However, the projected assets of the DI
Trust Fund decline steadily, fall below 100 percent of annual cost by the
beginning of 2013" (WAS 2017 when Obama took office) ", and continue to decline until the trust fund is exhausted in 2016" (WAS 2020 when Obama took office). "The DI Trust Fund does not satisfy the short-range test of financial adequacy because the test requires that the trust fund remain above 100 percent of annual cost throughout the short-range period."

Their recommendation: Raise taxes, lower benefits, do both, or Social Security will spend its last dime before today's 50 year old retires. Obama continues to fiddle while US burns cash. In a word : Idiot,
