And the Oscar goes to...
Funny... my husband and I were discussing the Academy Awards a few days before the event ever took place. Of course we were not going to watch an awards ceremony made up of Hollywood lefties patting themselves on the backs and awarding awards to themselves - content to bask in the adoration of the "little people" who made them stars in the first place. We actually joked about how the Obama's - who love to insert themselves into every media or sporting event - wouldn't be making an appearance - that even they wouldn't be able to pull off an Oscar visit...
Guess we were wrong.
Never before has a First Lady or president - been involved with the Oscars - especially to present an award. Yet, here we had Michelle Obama - surrounded by props of military personnel - presenting The Best Picture award. Being "streamlined" from the White House. Did anyone "feel proud for their country" at this moment? No, I would venture to say. Many felt shame and disgust.
Rush Limbaugh pegged this one for what it was worth. The wife of President Barack Hussein Obama - the very same same Obama - who allowed four Americans (including a U.S. Ambassador) to die at an Embassy during his watch, and then proceeded to cover up any investigation into the debacle - ends up presenting the best picture award to "Argo" - a movie about saving Americans stuck at an Embassy! The irony is priceless.
And Michelle Obama - during her bloviating speech - did not even bother to pay tribute to the military or the military personnel being used as props behind her. Instead, she talked about "gay marriage" and being all the best we can be no matter who we are - yet neglected to mention anything about the United States military.
New outlets even have asked the question: "why WAS Michelle Obama at the Oscars?"
Exactly.
The Obama's have no shame. They love the limelight. They are no better - or any smarter - than the Kardashians...or Honey Boo Boo...or American Idol. No wonder Obama is often called "President Kardashian." (At least the stories of the little man-child golfing with Tiger Woods are finally tapering off....)
Sadly, many of the low-information voters eat this stuff up.
We deserve the people we elect. Guess we as a country really did something wrong - and are being punished with the Obamas for another four years. Cool, hip, trendy. Yet - totally unpresidential. Dittos for his little missus.
Three good comments from viewers on Michelle's Oscar gig:
"They should make a movie on Benghazi and then let her announce it."
and...
"We are now in the age were government and hollywood are now one in the same. Smoke and mirrors on the state run media, and propaganda shows and movies on the TV. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, your country is now dead. Please plan your lives accordingly and resist at all cost. The next generation depends on your resistance and your sacrifice. You are the generation that will decide the fate of the world."
and..
"just solidifies hollywood as a political propaganda machine to perpetuate social decay."
Sad but true. Can First Ladies stoop any lower? Can a president continue to portray "cool" at the expense of the country?
You betcha.
Just wait for the next four dismal, destructive, dangerous years.
But wait! The March Madness picks are coming up! Americans everywhere will wait with anticipation over who The One - Barry Obama - will pick for the NCAA college basketball tourney!!! Quick - get a camera crew to the White House!!! Heck, get several!!! This kind of stuff IS really newsworthy!!!
,,,while the country goes to hell.
Egads.

I am surprised Michelle wasn't prompted to say how the impending sequester will cut the dry cleaning budget for the fine dress uniforms you see behind her.

In 1980 a famous actor of dozens of movies including an appearance in an Academy Award nominated film who later became the president of the Screen Actor's Guild appeared via taped performance while one month into his second term as POTUS.
Just as Obama squirms his way into every available Lincoln comparison, it looks like he is envious of Reagan's popularity too.

Were you equally upset when Laura Bush taped a “What Do the Movies Mean to You?” segment for the Academy Awards while she was first lady in 2002?
MGarber - Feb 26, 2013 8:33 AM
The acadamy asked Ron. The acadamy asked Laura. The acadamy asked Michelle. Can you folks live with that without some weird obsessive spin?
At the end of your life will you ask youself "Did I obsess over the Obamas enough"?

Yes. There were no Canadians in Benghazi to bail out the Americans.
What a maroon.
Mucho - Feb 26, 2013 10:13 AM
Exactly! Like us, the Canadians were lied to by Obama and were told the riot came without warning over a spontaneous civil protest that got out of hand.
The irony comes from the presence of US military at an award given to a movie about US citizens in danger when Obama couldn't muster any up for the real thing in Benghazi.
No obsession here on my part, just embrassment over the self serving priorities of our current president.
jman99 - Feb 26, 2013 10:22 AM
Well that's Canada's fault isn't it. There should have been Canadians there to look after the Americans in the first place.
Or perhaps it was an attempt to honor the forces that went in during the failed helicopter rescue. You think that might be possible?
Mucho - Feb 26, 2013 11:35 AM
Well, at least Carter tried. Obama left with the phone ringing from Benghazi and hit the campaign trail. To Carter's credit, he cared more about the country than his re-election. Same failed policies, but Obama put himself first and got re-elected.
Not sure why you brought Carter's failures into this but I see the Obama parallel between the two most ineffective leaders in the modern presidential era.

President Reagan - a former actor AND president of the Screen Actors Guild at one time, taped a greeting that played prior to the festivities. Many felt that given his past association with the film industry, this was not inappropriate in any way. (From a New York Times article in 1981:
"'President Reagan was once a member of our industry and it seemed fitting for him to join us,'' said Norman Jewison, producer of this year's show.")
Laura Bush was asked, along with many others, to express her opinion on "what movies mean to you" - a montage collection/short film of many people responding to the question.
Think there is any difference between Reagan, Bush, and Obama in terms of "inserting oneself into the actual ceremony?"
I do.
Obama became a PRESENTER - for the biggest award of the evening. Jack Nicholson bowed out to allow her to do so.
The Obama's - "Celebrities-In-Chief" are everywhere - late night shows, sporting events, magazines, etc. 24-7. They cannot get enough of themselves - and we - the public - are being "treated" to seeing them everywhere.
I think that Barry and Michelle - aside from sharing a hate for America and a love of socialism - are both narcissists. Self-absorbed me-me-me types who think simply because they love themselves so much, the public must, too. Hence, they both see no problem with over-saturating themselves into any and all events - no matter how "unpresidential." Doesn't matter. Who cares if the office of the president is demeaned in the process, after all, the Obama's are "oh so coooool!"

Wow - finally real bipartisanship!

And, yes, she is (as the kids used to say) "fine".
ahemmer - Feb 26, 2013 4:04 PM
To begin with, Hollywood lefties hate Republicans so whomever would have taken the stage would have been welcomed with boos (and I'm sure a few nice names from the "open-minded, loving" libs).
In addition, I would have been upset if years ago President Bush had been asked AND accepted. I would have felt such an appearance - as an award presenter - was stooping far below the office of the president. (Of course, President Bush would have had too much class to accept such an offer.)
How low Obama and Michelle have sunk the respectability of the office of the president in just four years plus is amazing.
Although, for the low-information voters, they probably don't care, as long as they are "getting theirs." In keeping with that thought, we have the Secretary of State - John Kerry himself - admitting what most of us know (based on the results of the past two presidential elections) :
"In America, you have a right to be stupid if you want to be." (If Kerry really wanted to be honest, he should have added: "and the Democratic Party will LOVE you cuz stupidity translates into votes!")

He was defending you to post whatever you want in your blog.
More of what he said from the link you posted;
"As a country, as a society, we live and breathe the idea of religious freedom and religious tolerance, whatever the religion, and political freedom and political tolerance, whatever the point of view," Kerry told the students in Berlin, the second stop on his inaugural trip as secretary of state. "People have sometimes wondered about why our Supreme Court allows one group or another to march in a parade even though it's the most provocative thing in the world and they carry signs that are an insult to one group or another," he added. "The reason is, that's freedom, freedom of speech. In America you have a right to be stupid — if you want to be," he said, prompting laughter. "And you have a right to be disconnected to somebody else if you want to be.”And we tolerate it. We somehow make it through that. Now, I think that's a virtue. I think that's something worth fighting for," he added. "The important thing is to have the tolerance to say, you know, you can have a different point of view."
Just one more example of that “sound bite” mentality of yours; if a conservative had said it you would be praising them, instead a democrat said it so you condemn him for saying something you agree with.
ahemmer - Feb 26, 2013 6:52 PM
Please note, ExTo: These words were NOT taken "out of context" and everything else Kerry said is just fine. But, in the end, Kerry DID make this statement exactly as I pointed out.
Not a "sound bite" at all. Not a "distortion." I simply repeated exactly what Kerry said.
And sorry, ExToDresident: If a conservative had uttered such words, I wouldn't be "praising them." (And I would appreciate it if you could point out where I "condemn" Kerry's statement. I do not. Please provide an example?)
I'd be doing exactly the same thing I am doing with John Kerry's observation: I'd agree with it.

Kerry is correct. Thats how Obama was elected.

Studies show liberals have high education levels
http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1968042,00.html
Red states have the lowest education voters
The lowest act test scores are from republican states
Local proof of stupid all of the chronic complainers here are worried more about
what the First Lady (who is more popular than all of the republican politicians
combined) is doing, than the do nothing in fighting republican congress that is
about send more Americans to the unemployment lines because of their
incompetent leadership... Leave it to republicans to complain about the wax job on
the car they are planing to crash into an orphanage
