First we had Benghazi. A terrorist attack from the start. A terrorist attack in which four Americans were murdered. A terrorist attack that the Obama Administration and the Secretary of State - Hillary Clinton REFUSED for weeks to admit was indeed a terrorist attack. Nope. Instead the American people were lied to - by the president, by Clinton herself, and others in the Obama Administration. This group made up a story in which they blamed the attack on a little-viewed video on YouTube. The president, Clinton, and others ran with this lie - for weeks. Secretary of State Clinton (knowing the YouTube blame was a lie) even had the nerve to tell a grieving family of one of the Benghazi victims that they'd get the person who made the video!!! Simply amazing - and disgusting.
What Benghazi all boiled down to was that the American people could not be told the truth, because an election was on the line and Obama's foreign policy was - and is - an obvious failure. Obama had to save himself. The presidential election was just a few weeks away. After all, Obama and his Administration had insisted that terrorists and terrorism was "on the run." We had little to worry about! After all, Obama had - by his own account - almost taken down Osama bin Laden by himself (forget about those pesky Navy Seals - Obama sure did!)! Spike that football! We got him! Terrorists and terrorism? Nah! No problem!
Now we learn that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton refused - for several years - to label Boko Haram a "terrorist organization." (Boku Haram is - by all definitions - a terrorist group in Africa that recently abducted over 200 school girls.) By labeling certain groups "terrorists", governments will then pay more attention to them and assign resources specifically to monitor their activities. So Secretary of State Clinton dragged her feet - despite numerous requests from various United States politicians and law agencies to do so. Whether Clinton chose to refuse to label Boko Haram terrorists, or whether the orders came from Obama himself is unknown. However, the damage is done. From Josh Rogin at The Daily Beast:
Wednesday, Clinton said that the abduction of the girls by Boko Haram was “abominable, it’s criminal, it’s an act of terrorism and it really merits the fullest response possible, first and foremost from the government of Nigeria.” Clinton said that as Secretary of State she had numerous meetings with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and had urged the Nigerian government to do more on counterterrorism.
What Clinton didn’t mention was that her own State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the UN headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen Senators and Congressmen.
“The one thing she could have done, the one tool she had at her disposal, she didn’t use. And nobody can say she wasn’t urged to do it. It’s gross hypocrisy,” said a former senior U.S. official who was involved in the debate. “The FBI, the CIA, and the Justice Department really wanted Boko Haram designated, they wanted the authorities that would provide to go after them, and they voiced that repeatedly to elected officials.”
In May 2012, then-Justice Department official Lisa Monaco (now at the White House) wrote to the State Department to urge Clinton to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. The following month, Gen. Carter Ham, the chief of U.S. Africa Command, said that Boko Haram provided a “safe haven” for al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and was likely sharing explosives and funds with the group. And yet, Hillary Clinton’s State Department still declined to place Boko Haram on its official terrorist roster.
So Clinton appears to have had yet another clear "heads up" on the danger that Boko Haram posed. Yet, like the cries for additional security at the American Embassy BEFORE the terrorist attack in Libya, they were ignored. So that 3 a.m. phone call that Hillary Clinton, when a candidate for president in 2008, mentioned as a potential stumbling block for Barack Hussein Obama (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=aZ_z9Tpdl9A) , also became a stumbling block for Clinton. Neither one of these two bumblers was capable of handling such a crisis - and all they wanted to do was protect their own careers.
To quote the Secretary herself, what difference at this point would it have made? Rep. Peter Meehan, who joined other members of Congress in writing “letter after letter” to State since 2011 demanding action on Boko Haram, explains to Rogin that it might be a lot easier to “bring back our girls,” as Hillary Clinton has begun posturing over the last week:
“We lost two years of increased scrutiny. The kind of support that is taking place now would have been in place two years ago,” he said. The designation would have “enhanced the capacity of our agencies to do the work that was necessary. We were very frustrated, it was a long delay.”
So, why did State refuse to act? This sounds … familiar:
“At the time, the sentiment that was expressed by the administration was this was a local grievance and therefore not a threat to the United States or its interests,” he said. “They were saying al Qaeda was on the run and our argument was contrary to that. It has metastasized and it is actually in many ways a growing threat and this is a stark example of that.”
So while Clinton may have been the "fall guy" in this whole debacle, her concern for the kidnapped girls of today falls flat. When push came to shove, Clinton refused to label this group of terrorists a group of terrorists. And over two hundred innocent Nigerian school girls in Africa are paying the price for the ineptitude and selfish political ambitions of Obama and Clinton. For shame.
One only hopes that eventually the mainstream media gets around to reporting on such... If they would finally see fit to do their jobs, Clinton's shot at becoming the next president is over before it ever began - and rightfully so. Her record as Secretary of State is little more than one of excuses, lies, and incompetence.
The concluding sentence from Hot Air says it all:
Now Hillary wants to fight Boko Haram with hashtags. Too bad she didn’t fight them with real resources when she had the chance.
