50 minutes of the same ole' same ole'
The smooth talker was at it again - for almost an hour. Slicker than "Slick Willie" - which is a real feat! Yet, saying nothing new. Saying nothing profound or concrete. Obama and the Democrats will soon have to face the realization that their hopes for socialized medicine will not come to fruition. I have faith that the American people are too smart and will continue to say "no" to a government take-over of our health care system.
Regarding Obama's 9/9/09 speech attempting to salvage Obamacare: Powerline bloggers John Hinderaker, Scott Johnson, and Paul Mirenjoff sum it up in the following:
"The Obama plan - whatever it is, once reduced to writing - depends on most of it's financing on the bare assertion that we are currently wasting hundreds of billions of dollars, and that we will stop wasting money only if taxpayers knuckle under to Obamacare. This was not, to put it kindly, a speech that was directed at thinking people."
Exactly.
Here are just a few of the whoppers the Dear Leader told last night:
1) "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."
False. What Obama fails to mention is that hospitals and doctors will not be allowed to ask for birth certificates or other information regarding a person's status as an illegal or otherwise. Sort of like the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. And isn't it funny how all of a sudden the 45 million people that Obama has been saying are "uninsured" suddenly went down to 30 million uninsured last night?
2) "Now, I have no interest in putting private insurers out of business."
Oh really?
3) "we've estimated that most of this plan can be paid for by finding savings within the existing health care system, a system that is currently full of waste and abuse."
What? Does Obama really want to insult us all by thinking we are stupid? The waste and abuse Obama speaks of hearkens to Medicare - a government-run program. If Medicare is so ripe with fraud and abuse, how is a government-run health care system going to be any different? And if Medicare is so corrupt, why isn't the Obama government addressing the problem right now? Why do they need Obamacare in order to address fraud in Medicare?
4) "...under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortion."
False. In order to be excluded from Obamacare, the term "abortion" has to be written in the bill specifically as an exclusion. It is not. Obama should know this - if he has read HR3200. Republicans had asked for such language to be included in the health care reform bills and were voted down along party lines. Abortion, therefore, IS covered under Obamacare and WILL be paid for with taxpayer dollars if Obamacare becomes a reality.
5) Obama promises that every American will be covered under Obamacare and it will cost Americans less. Anyone capable of adding or subtracting can figure out that this is not possible. It's called "math." Usually one does not get more for less.
As a side note, I find it quite amusing how outraged the liberals, media, and Democrats appear to be simply because one Republican, Joe Wilson, called Obama a "liar" during his speech:
Ah, how soon we forget that Democrats booed and hissed during President Bush's "State of the Union" speech several years ago.....but that's OK, cuz he was Bush!:
Although Wilson should not have behaved in the same manner of Democrats who were allowed to continually disrespect Bush without any repercussions, at least Wilson's honesty was a breath of fresh air during 50 minutes of hoodwinking! Wilson had the guts to say what the majority of Americans think about President Obama. Wilson spoke the truth. Obama's speech was one big lie.

The following statement sums up the entire conservative argument.
2) "Now, I have no interest in putting private insurers out of business."
Oh really?
What no “fabricated facts” to use to attack this??

That's not proof that Obama lied. If anything it's proof that he failed to mention something. The bill is a thousand pages long, I'm sure he "failed to mention" a lot of things. You and Hayatt need to get clear on what actually constitutes lying. The two of you have made a habit of making false allegations. It's not very Christian of you.
The Ninth Commandment reads:
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Onlyoneme: Obama touts a "single payer system" in the YouTube clip provided. He is saying the words. A "single payer system" means no private insurers. The single-payer system eliminates the need for intermediary for-profit health insurance companies.
How do you dispute the words coming out of Obama's own mouth?
jmark: It is a fact (a fact: the quality of being actual) that hospitals and doctors will not be able to ask for proof of citizenship for those they will be treating under Obamacare. HR3200 doesn’t require people to establish citizenship or legal residency before applying to exchanges for health insurance, including the public option, taxpayer money will certainly flow to illegal immigrants.

Wrong. There are currently laws on the books that prohibit federal funds from being used for abortion, with certain exceptions i.e. rape, incest, life endangering condition caused by the pregnancy. Not mentioning the word abortion in the bill does not nullify existing legislation.

"Anybody who would cat-call the president of the United States addressing this body is very, very inappropriate, and he will hear from a lot of us about that," Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., told FOX News Radio.
Seems not even the Republicans agree with Amy on this one. Truly dispicable behavior.
Here's an interesting tidbit about Mr Wilson: http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thegaggle/archive/2009/09/10/joe-wilson-s-dirty-health-care-secret.aspx

Its a fact that Obama's plan will triple the number of checks that hospitals check on citizenship from the checks they presently make.
lake country progressive - Sep 10, 2009 4:29 PM
False is correct. There are many possible ways to reform the system to save that money.
Obama's plan and those that model it in congress, however, are the only plans in existance that achieve that goal. In addition, the republicans have had decades to create their own plan and have failed to do so.
lake country progressive - Sep 10, 2009 4:31 PM
This is obviously true since that's the purpose of the reform and what most of the reform entails.

Where've you been? That's what he's doing. Even the simple-minded folks seem to understand that.
