Charlie Daniels on "illegal intruders"
The following column was written by Charlie Daniels - in 2006. He wrote it to address the nonsense concerning illegal immigrants (oops! I meant to use the warm and fuzzy term: "undocumented workers") that had been an on-going issue in Washington, D. C. At the time, lawmakers were debating various "solutions" to the illegal immigration problem. "Solutions" that went nowhere. (President Bush went so far as to suggest amnesty which created a firestorm and died, thankfully.) What Daniels wrote back then is still very relevant today. And given the uproar from the media and a minority of people in America over Arizona's recent laws passed to address illegal intruders, this column is very timely. (Thanks to a reader, Bonnie, for providing me with this article.)
"I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me - I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.
I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the United States of America, as it is a truly wonderful place.
But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal, it is flat out wrong and I don't care how many la-la land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons.
I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have anything against Mexicans! I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal. And if you don't believe it, try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get. What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it is tantamount to saying "I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there's nothing you can do about it."
It's an "in your face" action, and speaking just for me, I don't like it one little bit and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in Washington bigger than English peas, it wouldn't be happening.
Where are you, you bunch of lily-livered, pantywaist, forked-tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of the Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again? And even if you pass a bill on immigration it will probably be so pork-laden and watered down that it won't mean anything anyway. Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won't enforce the ones on the books now?
And what ever happened to the polls, guys? I thought you folks were the quintessential finger wetters. Well, you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want something done about this mess, and mess it is - and getting bigger every day.
This is no longer a problem. It is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy. Do you honestly think that what happened in France with the Muslims can't happen here - when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned Hispanics take to the streets?
If you, Mr. President, Congressmen, and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful, it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grandchildren will inherit. But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected.
Shame on you.
One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians) you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot, and anything else they can think of to call you.
Well, I've been pounded by the media before and I'm still rockin' and rollin' and when it comes to speaking the truth, I fear not. And the truth is that the gutless, gonadless, milksop politicians are just about to sell out the United States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up and face reality.
And reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegals in this country and turn around and say "oh, it's OK, y'all can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist."
And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "well, what's wrong with that?" I'll tell you what's wrong with it. These people could be from Mars as far as we know. We don't know who they are, where they are , or what they're up to and the way Congress is going, we're not going to.
Does this make sense? Labor force you say? We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is, must we subsidize their labor as well? If these people were from Haiti would we be so fast to turn a blind eye to them or if they were from Somalia or Afghanistan? I think not.
All the media shows us are pictures of hard-working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS 13, the violent gang who came across the same way decent folks did. They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegals some fat cat hired to pick his crop.
I want to make two predictions.
Number 1: This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in Washington drag their toes in the dirt and try to figure how many tons of political hay they can make to an acre.
Number 2: Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destruction and set it off in a major American city, after which there will be a backlash such and this country has never experienced. The Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue.
I don't know about you but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad and I don't care how many votes I lose. This is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out."
I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to America, but if you don't respect our immigration laws why should you respect any others?
And by the way, this is America and our flag has stars and stripes. Please get that other one out of my face.
Pray for our troops.
God Bless America,
Charlie Daniels

Hey, those honorable Republicans will take their votes wherever they can get them: "Republican strategists, led by White House chief political adviser Karl Rove, also see the proposal as an important element in their plan to expand the party's base among the nation's fast-growing Hispanic population."
Where can I get me one of them thar "Bush Kept Us Safe" bumper stickers?

"It's a compassionate way to treat people who come to our country. It recognizes the reality of the world in which we live," Bush said during a news conference last week. "There are some people -- there are some jobs in America that Americans won't do and others are willing to do."
"I fully understand the politics of immigration reform. I was the governor of Texas, right there on the front lines of border politics," Bush said. "I know what it means to have mothers and fathers come to my state and across the border of my state to work. Family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River, is what I used to tell the people of my state."

I suppose even though Hemmer states that Daniels wrote this in 2006 an election year. At the time Daniels wrote this Obama was just considering announcing his candidacy for president and republicans still controlled congress. Before the Democrats took control of congress, but for the purpose of this blog that is undoubtedly irrelevant.
Do you really believe that Daniels was chastising just the Democrats with his column? He was stewing on this while conservatives were in control. Of course the torch has been passed on to a Democratic president now, so all of a sudden it is the Democrats fault that nothing was done. How convenient to use an article written four years ago for your argument.

And I thought when Bush was president and wanted to grant amnesty to illegals he was crazy - or trying to placate Dems. Bush tended to do that waaaay to often - reach across the aisle and get kicked in the teeth... Anyhow, I disagreed with him - as did many Americans AND Republicans. That idea was short-lived.
We do not need to revive the "amnesty" venue with Obama, either.
We need real solutions to a mega-problem. Arizona has at least taken the first steps to addressing the situation with illegal intruders head-on. And what does the President do? Rather than support Arizona - and thereby supporting the Illegal immigration LAWS - the president - Barry O. - says that the Arizona law is "misguided." Yet another "Beer Summit" is in order, since Obama spoke off 'prompter yet again....

What’s this Hemmer speaking a discouraging word of GW. Isn’t that sacrilege for a conservative?? I thought it was against the rules for a right winger to speak out against one of their own.
I do have to agree with getting rid of the amnesty idea. We have to look for the reasons why they are coming over the border in the first place. And I am sorry the “in search of a better life is erroneous . Just like Charlie says look at the living conditions of the illegal’s the fat cat hired to pick his crops. I posted a link in your “It’s not Mexico, Yet” blog, but seemingly went unnoticed.

I believe that NAFTA should be repealed as well as all incentives that draw the illegal’s across the border. I endorse ending programs like Ron Paul describes in this video.

I can understand Arizona’s action and why the passed the bill they passed. However, I believe it is an imperfect solution; it is a Band-Aid on gaping wound.

Just as many lefties fail to speak out about what Obama is doing to our country. They cannot admit Obama is a danger. Maybe they are just too embarrassed to admit they even voted this clown into office. Who knows. Just like lefties permit idiots like Harry "the war is lost" Reid and Nancy Pelosi to dictate to the masses what they feel is best for us. The outrage against what the Dems are doing to this country is NOT coming from a majority of Dems, but independents and Republicans. Many Dems just cannot bring themselves to speak out against The Dear Leader.

How about the rest of my reply. Did you watch the videos I posted? Should I post them again?
What? Did the view I expressed in the later part of my reply throw you for a loop that you cannot express an opinion of it? Or is it that you just cannot bring yourself to agree with a “liberal”? I have stated in the past that I am Libertarian, but the high and mighty”Hayett” does not want to believe me.
It probably surprises you that I do agree with some of what you say, but obviously not all of it. I am after all not a right-wing conservative like you.

Sometimes your comments are so mind numbingly absurd I can't help but feel embarrassed for you.
