Murder mystery takes a hilarious twist.

There’s been a murder, several actually. Whodunit? Who cares! It’s all good fun and laughs when the Kettle Moraine Middle School presents “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” by John Bishop this weekend.

The show takes a light-hearted look at those dark (dun-dun-dun!) thriller mysteries from the Golden Age of Hollywood. It’s both a loving homage and biting send-up for the films of the time.

The plot? It’s a pot of bubbling stew using every device known to theatrical man – secret passages, revolving bookcases, Nazi saboteurs, struggling comedians, cabaret singers and secret agents, not to mention the eccentric Elsa von Grossenkneuten who accuses one of her crew of being the Stage Door Slasher. The dastardly deed-doer did his (her?) dastardly deed right in the middle a boffo Broadway show. The group of flamboyant thespians have gathered for the first time since their show was, literally, cut short.

Trey Korte is the show’s director assisted by Abby Kean who also serves as costume supervisor. Set designers are art teachers Bill Barder and Brock Rumohr, who have their hands full with the old mansion’s secret passages.

Performances for “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” are at 7:30 Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. Tickets are $8 at the door.
