Sexually oriented business regulations reccommended
According to City of Oconomowoc zoning ordinance, sexually oriented businesses are permitted within a heavy industrial district in the city. However, the city does not have any areas that are classfied as a heavy industrial districts, therefore if an adult/sexually oriented business wanted to locate within the city, it would not have that option and the city could face a federal lawsuit for violation of freedom of speech and expression.
In response to this, the Plan Commission passed a reccommendation that amends the current ordinance to allow this type of business to locate in one of the city's urban industrial districts of which there are three.
Mayor Maury Sullivan identified the move as a procedural effort in order to protect the city from a potential lawsuit which could also have the result of an adult business locating in any part of the city near other uses that it could be offensive to.
The ordinance still must come before common council for continued discussion and adoption. More on this story in Tuesday's Living Oconomowoc Focus.
