Pewaukee wrestlers finish second at state
Pewaukee's varsity wrestling team, ranked No. 5 in the state by Crossface Magazine, finished second Saturday night at the historic UW Field House at the WIAA State Team tournament in Division 2. Oconto Falls, ranked No. 1, defeated the Pirates for the 2010 state championship, 38-23.
It was the third straight state tourney appearance for the fast-rising Pirates.
Oconto Falls clinched the championship in the 13th of the 14 matches. PHS trailed 32-20 with two macthes to go and needed pins by Mike Dusel and AJ Olivares to tie. Dusel won by a 6-5 decision, icing the win for the Panthers.
In the semfinals Saturday afternoon, Pewaukee stopped Lodi, 35-20. In that match Travis Decker won by a pin and decision winners were Nathan Knutson, Kent Girmscheid, Alex Owens, Nathan Moore, Max Nonnamaker, Mitch Teeters, Chris Czech, Dusel and Olivares.
In the finals, Pewaukee got a pin from Decker and decision victories from Dusel, Josh Berg, Girmscheid, Nonnamaker and Teeters.
