10:44 a.m. | New merchants in Lake Country municipalities have had mixed experiences when it comes to setting up shop in the area. In Delafield, it seems that real estate leaders and the city are working hard to attract new business. While Oconomowoc city staff is helpful, the fees seemed to leave a bad taste in one merchant's mouth. And in Pewaukee, one business owner said that although staff members had a lot of questions, overall, they were approachable and helpful.

10:44 a.m. | Entrepreneurs looking to start a new business in Lake Country may be in for a vastly different experience, depending on what municipality they decide to settle in. In the City of Pewaukee, you might not make it as far as meeting with city staff because many are turned away because they don't fit within the city's aggressive zoning plan. In the City of Oconomowoc, potential business owners will find ample information on the city Web site and will receive a guide to opening a business that helps ease the process. But what's required further down the line - including providing dozens of copies for a signage plan - could be overwhelming. Delafield functions as best it can in a paperless world, but signage fees are a bit steeper because of its approval process.

Hearing set for Delafield development

10:30 a.m. | City of Delafield — cials have scheduled a public hearing March 31 on a proposed downtown residential development, even though the plans do not comply with a recently adopted section of the city's zoning code.

Summit incorporation decision expected soon

10:30 a.m. | The Town of Summit has just another couple weeks to wait until the State Incorporation Review Board issues its opinion on the town's petition for incorporation.
