Have you gotten the call?

Waukesha County is about to be taken over - by sheep. Beginning last week and continuing through Feb. 12, members of St. Paul Parish in Genesee Depot may be sending unsuspecting parishioners a flock of sheep to help promote their yearly auction fundraiser, which takes place Feb. 13.

Help! I've been flocked!

Sheep will be flocking in the front yards of unsuspecting St. Paul members. There are three sheep to a flock, along with an auction sign. When a member wakes to find a flock in their yard, they have several choices. First, they should check the back of the auction sign for a set of instructions. Second, they can chose pay $10 to send the flock to another member. Members can pay an additional $5 to keep their anonymity as they forward the flock or $10 to find out who "flocked" them. Finally, $20 flock insurance will prevent members from being flocked again.

Why answer the call?

Not only will the flock provide advertising for the church auction - people who drive by a house with a flock may also read about the auction event - but it's also a fun way to get involved with the church, neighbors and community. Donations will benefit the church in its yearly fundraiser.

The yearly auction is an event not to be missed, said Robin Gedney, who is spearheading the flocking of the sheep. There will be a live and silent auction and a 50-50 raffle. Attendees can choose from a variety of live auction items, including a behind-the-scenes tour of Bartolotta Fireworks Co. at Festa Italiana, a luxury condo in the Dells, various golf outings, preseason Packers tickets and more. Numerous silent auction items will also be featured, including Milwaukee Repertory Theater tickets, a Sony PlayStation 3 and much more.

Raffle items include a Las Vegas trip with airfare from Air Tran, Dell laptops, diamond necklaces and more.

This year's theme is "Viva Las Vegas," and $250 in casino funny money and one raffle ticket will be included with the admission ticket. The funny money can be used to get chips to play the games, including blackjack, craps, roulette, let-it-ride, money wheel and Texas hold 'em poker. At the end of gaming, members can trade their chips and funny money for raffle tickets. Prize winners will be drawn immediately.

You don't have to be a member to attend the auction, where the raffle winner will be drawn. Auction dinner tickets are now on sale, starting at $65.

The 50-50 raffle means that the winners will receive half the total and the church will receive the other half. Each parish family received a packet of 10 tickets and is encouraged to sell them to their family, friends and coworkers. The more tickets sold, the larger the pot. If 12,500 tickets are sold, for example, then the total pot is $125,000 (each ticket donation is $10.) Gedney explained the first-prize winner will receive 40 percent of the total and the second- through fifth-prize winners will share the other 10 percent.

Tapas prepared by Lee Johns will be served, including Southwest grill, crab cakes, quesadillas, grilled chicken breast and more. A live band will entertain guests after the auction.
