Dousman man charged with road rage after allegedly pointing gun at driver
40-year-old allegedly points gun at other driver
Tan Tran, 40, from Dousman, is being charged after an alleged road rage incident led him to produce a weapon and wave it at the other driver.
Felony charges for pointing a firearm at another, carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct (use of a dangerous weapon) were filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Nov. 28 for an incident that occurred on Sept. 12, around 8:30 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched on a call of a "man with a gun" after a caller reported seeing someone in a black Toyota Corolla heading east on I-94 pointing a handgun at another driver.
The complaint says that Tran's car was apparently following the other driving, honking his horn, pulling up next to him giving him the middle finger. The driver then told police that Tran reached down with his right hand and then pointed a gun at him and gestured like he was going to shoot him with it, according to the complaint. Tran told police that the other driver had been looking down, texting, speeding up, slowing down and breaking, but never admitted to pointing the gun at him, the complaint states.
Police stopped the vehicle near Jill and Mary Ann Drive in Waukesha. The complaint states Tran complied with officers and was taken into custody.
According to reports, Waukesha County Sheriff deputies searched the car and found an uncased Bersa Thunder 380 handgun with a magazine in it holding seven rounds of .380-caliber ball ammunition. The chamber was empty but the side key safety was reportedly in the fire position.
Tran told police that he was en route to a shooting range, but could not describe the location to the officers. He also told police that he only took the gun out of his holster because it hurt on his hip, according to the report. When Tran was asked a second time, according to the report, he said he was raising it higher so he could keep it holstered and put it on the passenger seat.
If Tran is convicted, he could face fines of up to $21,000 or up to 18 months in jail.
