Catholic Memorial rolls past KM
Kettle Moraine's varsity boys basketball team keeps running into red-hot basketball teams. On Friday, it was Catholic Memorial.
Hosting the Crusaders in the final game of the first round in the Classic 8 Conference, the Lasers stayed close in the first half before falling, 69-47. The loss dropped the Lasers to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in league play. KM will host Waukesha North (8-5, 3-4) on Friday.
CMH led 35-26 at halftime but put the game out of reach with a 24-9 edge in the third quarter. Forward Mitchell Oleson was tops in scoring for the Lasers with 17 points, and guard Paul Miller chipped in with 10 tallies. Mike Ottusch was next with 6 points.
CMH (7-5, 3-4) was led by Jake Giffhorn with 20 points.
Girls fall, too
Kettle Moraine's varsity girls basketball team lost a Classic 8 Conference game at Waukesha Catholic Memorial on Friday, 48-41.
The Crusaders led at the half, 24-23.
Linley Achtenhagen scored 10 points to lead the Lasers (2-9 overall, 2-5 in Classic 8). Olivia Weber had eight rebounds, and Chloe Tompkins had six.
"We turned the ball over three times in the fourth quarter in a row in critical situations and they capitalized each time," KM head girls basketball coach JoEllen Dickert-Sturtz said. "I continue to be optimistic about this team. They've maintained positive attitudes, and I don't see fear with any of them."
