UPDATE

Photos from head-on crash on Highway 83

 Photos by Kelly Smith/Staff photographer

Two people were in serious condition Thursday morning when a pickup truck collided head-on with a semi-trailer on Highway 83, north of North Lake.

Waukesha County Sheriff Department Lt. Steve Pederson said the driver of the Stephen's delivery truck was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, there were no further details on their condition at the time of this posting.

The driver of the blue truck was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. No details on his condition were available Thursday afternoon.

Pederson said the driver of the blue pick-up truck crossed the center line and the other driver swerved to miss him and crashed into a tree.

Pederson said the accident occurred at 9:15 a.m. and is still under investigation. A segment of Highway 83 north of North Lake near County Highway CW was closed for several hours.

  1. The Stephens truck driver is my oldest grandson. He is one of 18 grandchildren. And I just wanted to say what a wonderful man my grandson has become. He is a hard worker, who always drives safely and thinks of others before himself. He is a dedicated to his job and those who are in his personal life. He was trapped in the drivers area of The Stephens Delivery truck and the only way he could get out was by pushing the front windshield out to get to the driver of the blue truck as he wanted to see if he was okay, and he smelt gas. But my grandson, Troy, could not reach the driver of the blue truck, and he had to be cut out of the truck by firemen.
There is no better man than my grandson, and thanks to his quick thinking of trying to swerve out of the oncoming blue truck, I believe he saved that man's life, as well as his own.
This is an example of how we cannot take life for granted as it can end in the flicker of a light. Troy is a hero.
