Flight for Life takes motorcyclist to Froedtert

A 46-year-old Oconomowoc man was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital after an accident at about 6:26 a.m. Thursday at Highway KE at Maes Terrace in the Town of Merton, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.

The man was traveling north on Highway KE on a motorcycle when a 73-year-old Pewaukee woman turned south on KE from Maes Terrace, striking the motorcycle, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Hartland Police Department responded, as well as the Hartland Fire Department.

The incident is under investigation.

  1. This is the 2nd accident in less than a week by an older person, 70+. The other one was fatal.......I really think they need to start treating the elderly like the teenagers when it comes to driving. Test them, so they don't kill us. If I was that age, I would have no problem with people testing my abilities so that I didn't hurt anyone.

  3. Before we all pass judgment either way...

How many times have you seen a young man thinking he is immortal
run his crotch rocket to warp speed. I have seen it many times.
The last time I saw it was on 27th and Layton. Passed us like we were
standing still. About half a minute later we made a left turn onto Layton and
low and behold who could not make that turn due to high speed and slammed
his bike into the curb. The bike was demolished and the rider lay in a pile 20
feet or so from the bike. Thank God he was wearing a helmet.

My spin is when you pull out into traffic and look to see any traffic...
if you see a bike more than a safe distance to do so,you pull out. Of course the distance / time ratio is skewed if the biker is speeding.

We just had a young guy slam into a car in Bay View as he fired up his crotch
rocket to go to the Frolics.

You are so off base with your reply.
I did not say anything about anyone deserving anything.
Of course maybe you could be deserving of a bit of common sense.
Just from your reply I can see you are a hot head, with issues of comprehension. Let me make it a little simpler for you to understand.
Yes I squibbed my words out of order and you use that as an argument...pretty weak. Obviously you don't get the drift...or you won't.
I have many friends with bikes.
I have had friends die on their bikes through no fault of their own. (2)
I always check for bikes. I also give them the benefit of waiting to gauge their speed. I don't talk on a cell, or text when driving. I have never had a ticket other than a parking ticket nor have I
caused an accident. I don't roll stop. I don't tail gate unless I am at a Brewers game. I am stating an opinion of the experiences I see happening more and more ofter, not making an excuse or placing blame.
Get a grip and don't forget to wear a helmet.
  5. I completely agree with Racegrl88. For the safety of everyone on the road, we need to assure that everyone who is driving is capable of driving safely. Just yesterday, an elderly woman pulled out right in front of me as she came off of hwy 16, without even a glance in my direction (I drive a bright red Cobalt, so it's not like I'm hard to see). The most dangerous thing that Americans do every day is get in our cars, and yet people treat it like it's nothing. Since we do it so often, we tend to forget that it is nothing more than a multiple ton hunk of metal flying down the road at 65 miles an hour. I just passed my motorcycle safety course at Wisconsin Harley Davidson, and I hope to buy a bike soon, but stories like this just send a shiver down my spine to think of how ignorant people can be of others on the road. I'll admit to it myself, it's easy to get distracted, but that should never take you away from the task at hand.
Also, as Mr Wizard said: WEAR A HELMET.

You still have that comprehension problem.
Of course the answer has zero relevance to the accident.
My second reply was to your comments about what you think I said.
    Did you read it?
I am trying to make it simple for you to understand.
You degraded my driving sense without knowing how I drive, so my response was to fill you in on my driving history.
I guess having never caused an accident or gotten a ticket
after 46 years of driving escapes you. I use that to show you I am a safe
driver. If that makes me a saint in your eyes so be it. I will tell you I am no
saint with many things I may have done in my life but as far as driving goes
    I stand on my record.
I hope you GET it and understand, and comprehend my reply.
    Did you actually read it.
I can tell with each response you send you have a comprehension problem.
By the way the patron saint of driving is St. Christopher
  7. "How many times have you seen a young man thinking he is immortal

I've also see probably more people in 4-wheeled vehicles drive at 'warp speed' more times than I've ever see motorcycles. The only difference is a 4 wheeled vehicle is much bigger, more easily seen, and has more safety features. Does that make it ok then?
  8. I'm just glad all of you were there to see what happened.
  9. In this corner we have Mr. Wizard & In the other corner we attitude Sysint.
Well not one of you where there at 6:26AM.

The bottom line, Lets be carefull out there.

We have all seen bad driving in/on all vehicles.

These are not accidents , law enforcement calls them Crashes. Some driver or both screwed up.
Now lets not pass judgement by what we read in a news paper.
In my reading of your comment, you both have good intentions.
  10. ajarshem: Good for you in taking the safety course before you begin your motorcycling adventure. I wish you well. And here's a hint at how to keep from becoming a victim of other motorists' inattention--always ride as if you are invisible. That means no one can see you, so it is totally up to you to be prepared for the stupid things they will do. Another hint--consider taking periodic refresher MSF courses. I took a total of 4 of them, and learned something at each one.

I recently sold my last motorcycle after putting on more than 500,000 miles in just under 50 years time, 7 different bikes. Reflexes aren't what they used to be, and I don't like ouch. Put 384,000 miles on one, a BMW I had for 19 years. Involved in just one accident on the first bike (Triumph) in 1965, when a woman pulled out in front of me (and I hadn't yet realized the riding invisible thing), forced me off the road and into a ditch. Stupid me, wasn't even wearing a helmet yet, but I immediately started wearing one--always!
  11. The man on the bike is my uncle so please pray for him!!! He needs all of your prayers!!!!!
  12. I am pretty sure that I work for one of your family members. Tammy. Please let
her and the rest of your family know . that me and my family are wishing for the
best. If by any chance this is a different accident . please know that our wishes
are the same for your family. Sincerily Terry W.
