$10,000 distributed to veterans at Oconomowoc dealership
Oconomowoc - The nearly $10,000 raised during the 2011 Patriot Tour will be
distributed to 13 families during ceremony on Friday at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson,
1280 Blue Ribbon Drive.
The awards of approximately $700 each will go to nine Milwaukee-area families and to families in Baton Rouge, La., Yankton, S.D. and San Antonio, Texas, organization officials announced on Wednesday.
Approximately 150,000 riders nationwide participated in the 2011 Patriot Tour, transporting the American flag on the back of a motorcycle through the continental 48 states between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Since 2010 Wisconsin Harley-Davidson has been the national dealership sponsor of
the Patriot Tour, hosting both the flag launch and homecoming events each year and working with dealerships around the country to host and facilitate flag transfer ceremonies.
“We are honored to be able to share the funds raised from the 2011 Patriot Tour
with these 13 families,” said Bill Sherer, founder and executive director of the Nation of Patriots.
“Pride and honor often keep those who need it most from asking for assistance, but we know that their sacrifices are more than deserving of this help and so much more.”
