O'Reilly Auto to move into former Oconomwoc Blockbuster
O'Reilly Auto Parts will open up a store at 524 E. Wisconsin Ave. which once housed a Blockbuster. Director of Economic Development Bob Duffy shared the news Tuesday afternoon.
The Oconomowoc Blockbuster closed in spring of 2010 amidst many others in the area as the heyday for home movie rentals from video stores was edged out by more convenient and cheaper alternatives. Options such as on-demand movies you can rent from your couch; Netflix, which comes in the mail or your personal computer with no late fees; and a the popularity of a newer invention, Redbox, a movie-vending machine conveniently situated outside local stores, pushed the mom and pop rental stores and the corporate giants out.
Store owner Paul Huhn said in a past interview after news of the closing that at one point he and fellow owners of Wisconsin Video Inc. operated six Blockbuster around the area, including one in Delafield. The Oconomowoc store is the last of the group to close.
