Sussex residents asked to cut back watering

Village of Sussex - The Public Works Committee on Tuesday agreed to initiate a voluntary sprinkling restriction until dry conditions improve.

Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said during the recent triple-digit weather and Fourth of July holiday, the village water use went above 2.5 million gallons a day. Smith said the water use is now back to under 2 million gallons a day, but in drought conditions suggested taking water preservation measures.

The committee discussed whether or not to impose a ban or ask residents to voluntarily restrict their lawn watering to every other day. They agreed to start with every other day in hopes residents would honor this request.

  1. I wish I could afford to water my lawn. I guess I'll look at it as if I'm saving resources.
  2. I wish I could find a job and put food on my table. Glad Sussex biggest WORRY is how green their grass is !
  3. I wish I could afford to water my lawn and I'm glad I'm saving resources.
  4. I remember growing up in Fond du Lac and during the summer of 1988, people
who wanted to water ANYTHING was only allowed to every other day based on
their addresses; much like alternate side parking in the winter.

After a month like this with no rain and high heat, a policy like this shouldn't be
voluntary, but manditory. Sussex residents do not need their garden vegetables
to feed their families, nor do they need their lawns to look green JUST for aesthetics. First world problems, indeed.
  5. The lawns in the Village are a major eyesore, and it reflects badly on the
community. Jeremy Smith seems to have no idea what kind of terrible damage
he's doing to our property values.
When he refuses to allow us to water on a daily basis those huge patches of
dead grass start to spread, we can't just act like it isn't happening right in front of
    us.
The saddest part of all is what that Village Administrator’s policy is doing to those
poor azalea bushes. He's absolutely brutalizing them, and they may never
recover. Why, oh, God, why won't he let us water them?
I’d like to know if signed the recall petition.
  6. Grass growth goes dormant with lack of water. It won't die and not return.
Watering your lawn is selfish in these conditions.
And only the selfish are concerned with property values.
  7. Lucius: Wow, you sound horribly whiny!! Most of the world doesn't even have
enough clean water to drink, and you're whining about property values and azeleas.
    Move to Africa!
EVERYwhere looks terrible right now. It's NOT Jeremy Smith's fault. Not to mention
that as of now, the watering ban is VOLUNTARY, not mandatory.
And based on your last comment, I'm sure you voted for Walker. Why don't you
blame him for the drought ?
