Fowler Lake residents want goose roundup

A group of Fowler Lake residents want a goose roundup despite a recommendation from the city to hold off on one.

Discussions related to a roundup began last year. Options were presented including spending $5,000 to round up geese which could include oiling eggs and catching geese. The geese would be harvested for their meat and the meat sent to food pantries.

One resident said the geese have become a significant problem. He said their feces is abundant in Fowler Park and is bad at resident beaches and homes.

A motion was presented  and approved at the lake management district's money to commit the money for a roundup.

  1. Where do geese get to live at this point? Is Horicon the only place where geese are allowed to live?? Let's be honest, it is all about wealthy home owners on Fowler Lake who are pushing to make this decision for the rest of Oconomowoc. Hunters and nature lovers oppose this round up. I would like all those land owners on the lake who are promoting this mass killing to have to have to put in community nature hours working at Horicon or one of the few places where geese and other waterfowl are allowed to live. What is next? Should we have the chosen few decide where we should allow deer, turkey, or ducks to life. Where do you draw the line??????
  2. What makes everyone think a food pantry is the place to send dead animals or anything else no one wants to dispose of otherwise. I can sympathize with the landowners though, since goose poop is really objectionable when tracked into your home.
  3. By all means get rid of the geese. Let's not stop with geese. There's all kinds of wildlife out there that needs exterminating. There are ways to keep geese off your property. Has anyone looked into this.
