Two dead in early morning crash in Delafield after vehicle hits utility pole
Another taken to Froedtert Hospital; Delafield squad car damaged after tree falls on top of it at scene
Two men died in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in the City of Delafield and a third is in critical condition.
The crash took place at 3:15 a.m. on Nagawicka Road, just north of Faire Lakes Parkway, Delafield Police Chief Scott Taubel said.
The vehicle struck a utility pole, Taubel said.
Taubel said the driver and front-seat passenger died at the scene and an 18-year-old male in the backseat was taken to Froedtert Hospital by the Lake Country Fire and Rescue.
That individual, Taubel said, is in critical condition.
As of early Tuesday evening, Delafield police said the victims' immediate family members have been notified, but explained it will not release the names until Wednesday morning after those family members can contact other relatives.
The case is still under investigation, but the chief said that initial indications show that speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
In addition to the Delafield Police Department, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the Village of Hartland Police Department also assisted at the scene, Taubel said.
Delafield Police had more to deal with Tuesday morning after a tree, that was struck by lightning, fell onto the roof of one of its squad cars while at the scene.
At the time, Delafield Police Lt. Bob Hagen was doing a TV interview and his squad car was parked nearby at the scene of the crash.
Taubel said the impact of the tree did "considerable damage" to the car and is not functionable.
It has since been towed back to the Delafield Police Station.
No one was in the car at the time and no one was hurt.
