DPI: ACT tests for all high schoolers

PEWAUKEE – State Superintendent Tony Evers announced his proposal for all Wisconsin public high school juniors to take the ACT college admissions test under the Dept. of Public Instruction’s (DPI) 2013-15 budget request.

All public school ninth-grade students would take the ACT EXPLORE assessment in spring of 2014-15 school year. An ACT PLAN would be administered in 10th grade. The ACT and WorkKeys assessment would be in 11th grade. The four-test ACT suite for career planning and accountability would cost approximately $7 million.

The tests would replace the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination that 10th graders currently take to comply with federal testing requirements. The ACT package will add growth measures and improve college and career readiness measures, according to the DPI.
