Who are the 'Bonsai People'?
What can happen when you give the less fortunate a chance? Find out when the Oconomowoc Arts Center hosts documentary film maker Holly Mosher and her film, “The Bonsai People – The Vision of Muhammad Yunus” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28.
Mosher filmed the result of what happened when Nobel Peace Prize winner Yunus lent $27 out of his own pocket to 42 people to help them start a business.
His help started a social movement that has grown into access to healthcare, education, alternative energy and his establishment of the Grameen Bank.
“Poor people are bonsai people, there is nothing wrong with their seed – society never allowed them the space to grow,” said Yunus.
The OAC will screen Mosher’s documentary which explores the effort and she will be available for questions after the film.
Tickets are $7.50 each, general seating. Service fees may apply. Tickets are available through the OAC box office. Stop in during regular business hours or call the office at (262) 560-3172. Tickets are also available through the website: www.theoac.net.
