Ice motorcyclists crowd Oconomowoc Town Hall
Town of Oconomowoc - A group of about 50 motorcyclists who like to ride on two frozen ponds within the town showed up Tuesday night to oppose a proposed ordinance that would limit their riding.
The Town Board was considering an ordinance that would limit their speed to no more than 10 mph, types of maneuvers like wheelies and spin outs and exhaust after resident complaints.
The group - about half who said they are town residents - said they are safe riders and can self-regulate their exhaust so its not disturbing to neighbors of the ponds. The board agreed to let the group work out some temporary regulations on when they ride and other concerns. The agreement will allow the riders to enjoy the rest of the season.
Police Chief James Wallis said that he has never experienced problems with the group in the past. He said he didn't want to see their recreational sport ruined because of one person and planned to meet with them, and check on them when they're out riding on the weekends.
