Oconomowoc Pabst Farms mall becoming a reality? Mayor makes last-minute announcement
City of Oconomowoc - A rather uneventful Common Council meeting ended with a bit of intrigue Tuesday night when Mayor Jim Daley made what he called a last-minute announcement.
Daley announced the establishment of an Ad-Hoc committee for the "economic and community betterment specific to negotiations with Pabst Farms."
He appointed aldermen David Nold, Mike Miller and James Larsen to the committee. Their first meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Feb. 13 prior to the regular Plan Commission meeting.
"My intent is to create a balanced approach to imminent things that are coming," regarding the development, said Daley of his choice of committee appointments. "These people didn't even know about these appointments until this announcement," he added.
There has been no activity or discussion regarding the mall in the Pabst Farms development within the last year.
Last summer it was discovered Diversified Development Realty (DDR) was no longer the developer of the Pabst Farms Town Centre. The Pabst Farms Retail Inc. took over work to lease and develop the regional mall.
When asked if the change from DDR was a bad sign, Daley said no."I think DDR had different priorities and I don't think it hurts the project but strengthens the focus," Daley previously said.
Further back in spring, the city approved spending its final $3 million in Pabst TIF funds to build two roadways to the development - the southeast arterial and north/south road. The roads were the last piece of infrastructure to ready the development for the regional mall and another potential tenant. At the time, the city was hoping to attract Kohl's there to build a new corporate headquarters.
Does the Mayor's new committee on Tuesday mean that a big announcement is ahead on tenants for the mall?
Daley could not be reached for further comment at the time of this writing.
