How do you get someone to shave their head? How about raising $4 million
United Way in Waukesha County Campaign Chair and President of Tailored Label Products, Mike Erwin, honored a bet he made last year. Erwin, a Mukwonago resident, pledged that if the goal of $4.5 million was raised he would shave his head. The final numbers came in at $4,503,708, a 3.5-percent increase of the 2011 campaign.
Erwin, a man of his word, had stylist Cynthia Bindrich from Brookfield’s Studio 890 Salons on standby as the campaign total was revealed at the event. His head was shaved as the crowed cheered and watched with enjoyment.
The success of the 2012 campaign keeps United Way in Waukesha County on track to reach the goal of the Strive for 5 campaign as well. Strive for 5 is a three-year goal to raise $5 million and recruit 500 volunteers by the end of 2014.
The $4,503,708 million raised in the 2012 campaign places United Way in a great position to invest in issues that are important to the community and really make a difference. The goal to recruit 500 new volunteers for reader, tutor,
and mentoring programs is also on track with 115 new volunteers to date.
President of Tailored Label Products and Campaign Chair, Mike Erwin, was delighted with the campaign results. “It ceases to amaze me how generous the many Waukesha County business and community leaders and employees are
when it comes to sharing their time and treasure with those in need...and I personally thank them for their consistent and empathic support of United Way programs."
Executive Director, Jayne Thoma, said of the campaign success: “Amazing things happen when you pull together as a community. There are literally thousands of individuals and businesses who worked together to achieve this ambitious
goal.
"We celebrate and applaud the generosity of our donors and volunteers and we now look forward to investing these contributions in programs and services to help those most in need. A gift to United Way results in many lives improved; it’s that reality that makes this achievement so meaningful.”
United Way in Waukesha County celebrated the success of their annual campaign and recognized the 2012 Outstanding Campaigns at their Annual Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee.
