Neylon confirms 98th Assembly; no recount expected
All absentee ballots have been counted and Pewaukee businessman Adam Neylon remains the winner of last week's 98th Assembly primary in a close race against Village of Pewaukee Police Chief Ed Baumann.
Baumann does not plan to seek a recount.
With no Democratic challenger, Neylon is all but assured of taking the seat in the April general election.
Absentee ballots had to be postmarked by Tuesday, Feb. 19, and received by clerks by Friday, Feb. 22, in order to be considered.
In a tight race, where Neylon took the lead by 30 votes, absentee ballots were especially important.
In the end, the Village of Pewaukee accepted one vote for Ed Baumann and one vote for Neylon. In the City of Pewaukee, they also accepted one vote each, and Jeanne Tarantino also gained one vote. The City of Waukesha accepted one vote each, as well. The Village of Sussex and the Town of Lisbon remained the same, with neither municipality reporting additional votes.
These votes will be confirmed by the vote canvass today and added to Neylon’s 2,003 votes and Baumann’s 1,973 votes. With each candidate receiving exactly three more votes, the 30 vote difference remains the same.
Baumann said he would not seek a recount because he trusts the clerks and wouldn’t want to put the taxpayers through it.
“I know, I personally know, the clerks that are handling this. … Those people are very professional, ethical and hard-working individuals. We need to believe the results are going to be right,” he said.
