Furloughs, hiring delays in Pewaukee future
Faced with a $600,000 shortfall in anticipated revenues this year, the Common Council last night tentatively approved a measure that would require nonunion employees to take unpaid furloughs the day before the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. Additional furloughs of one to three days might be required later this year.
The measure also calls for delaying hiring some employees, including a police chief, and freezing all equipment purchases and nonmandatory training.
The shortfall was discovered in the last several weeks as the city began its 2010 budget process.
