Citizen starts effort to recall Mayor Klein
City of Pewaukee – A City of Pewaukee resident has started an effort to recall Mayor Scott Klein citing his failure to be "independent, impartial and responsible to the people," according to documents filed with the city. Resident Mark Eberhardt, listed as the president/treasurer of a political committee called "Pewaukee First," filed a campaign registration statement with the city this afternoon which allows him to begin collecting signatures, said Administrator Tammy LaBorde. Eberhardt cited Klein’s "failure to make policy and decisions in proper channels of government structure," and "failure to maintain public confidence in the integrity of its government." The effort comes in the midst of budget shortfalls, discussions of contracting for police services with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, talks of merging with the Village of Pewaukee and questions about Klein’s handling of various Police Department issues. Eberhardt also listed Klein’s "failure to avoid conflict or reasonable appearance of conflict to foster respect for government" according to LaBorde. Clerk-Treasurer Kelly Tarczewski said there would need to be a minimum of 1,631 signatures to initiate a recall of the mayor.
