Suspected cop killer bound over for trial

Jefferson – A judge found probable cause this morning that Andrew J. Wirth, 24, of Jefferson, may have shot and killed Town of Oconomowoc police officer Jennifer Luick, 37, and her boyfriend Gregg Peters, 40, outside a Jefferson bar Dec. 6.

Wirth was bound over for trial by Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Weston this morning and set an arraignment hearing for Jan. 14.
Witnesses testified at a preliminary hearing seeing Luick and Peters leave Vinnie’s Rock Bottom bar with Wirth. Two witnesses saw Wirth hold a gun to Peters head and another witnessed testified she saw Wirth hold an object to his head. None of the witnesses said they heard any shot or saw the shooting.
Witnesses said Luick grabbed Wirth’s behind as he walked by in the bar, which resulted in Wirth glaring at Luick. After Luick and Peters left the bar, they went back in because Luick felt bad about the situation, one witness said.
Luick was shot once and Peters three times, testified Jefferson Police Detective Eric Weiss.
Weiss said Wirth was surprised to hear that Luick was shot.
“He didn’t mean to kill her, but she started it,” Weiss testified.
