AHS to make stadium fundraising push

Arrowhead High School is hoping for donations to make planned renovations to the school's football stadium a reality by the start of the 2010 season.

Plans were introduced in late November to provide the stadium with new bleachers, more restrooms and concessions areas, new entrances, a new press box, new lighting and sound equipment, storage areas and a fully accessible handicapped area.

The plans call for between $2 million and $4 million to complete the project by late August. No taxpayer money will be used.

"Right now, we have a limited amount of time to raise the money so we can get the project started," said Arrowhead Athletics Director Kevin Flegner. "Our goal is to fund this project with all private donations. We have a core group of people who have committed a lot of money to get this done. Now we need some more people to get involved. Unfortunately, we have to get going on the fundraising project immediately to successfully meet our goal of getting this done by the end of August."

The field, which had synthetic turf installed years ago and a new scoreboard last summer, needs particular improvements to its bleacher areas. The home bleachers were constructed almost 45 years ago and are not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The stadium could also use more seating. The current bleachers seat about 1,600 people. The new proposal calls for room for almost 3,400 fans.

"If we can get this project done, everyone will benefit, not just the football program," Flegner said. "By having a bigger facility, we will be able to host bigger football playoff games - like Kettle Moraine did last year - WIAA sectional track meets, as well as improved conditions for graduation, youth events, community events like the Relay For Life and all kinds of other local activities. It will be a project for the entire school and Arrowhead community, not just football. We want this to be an all-purpose facility."

The initial core group of donors working to get this project off the ground include The Marek Group, Milwaukee Wave and NXLevel.

The core group is expected to make a fundraising push during February to get the project rolling. Naming rights opportunities will be available to donors, and Arrowhead is acting as a liaison for the project.

"This is an ambitious goal, but this group of individuals believes the timing is right and looks forward to working with the community and alumni to make this project happen," Flegner said.

According to a fundraising postcard, donation opportunities range from $1 to $1 million or more.

Anyone interested in getting involved or donating should call Flegner at (262) 369-3612 Ext. 4203. Donations also can be sent to Arrowhead High School, Stadium Project, c/o Athletics Office, 800 North Avenue, Hartland, 53029.
