Pewaukee School Board to vote on referendum Monday
The Pewaukee School Board will vote Monday night on a referendum that may go to the voters in April.
This would be the second referendum in six months for the Pewaukee School District if it’s voted through. In November, district residents rejected a two-part referendum that sought nearly $25 million for building upgrades including new classrooms at Pewaukee High School, expansion and renovation of fine arts classroom areas, auditorium and cafeteria at PHS, construction of a new gym and eight-lane pool at PHS, and construction of a secure main entry at Asa Clark Middle School. The second question asked for permission to exceed the state-imposed revenue limits by $400,000 to operate and maintain the new facilities. The first question was voted down 54 to 46-percent while the second question was denied by 56 to 44-percent. Board members will decide at a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the District Learning Center, at 404 Lake St., whether to hold the referendum and the specific wording of the questions. The board has been working on the district’s ten-year facility improvement and campus development plan since the failed November election. The board recently surveyed district residents to uncover voter sentiment. Voters were asked to fill-out a postcard survey and mail it back and parents with students in the district were asked to fill out an online survey.
