Summit referendum meeting May 24

The Town of Summit will hold a public information session from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 24 to allow voters to have their referendum questions addressed. The meeting is at the Summit Town Hall, 2911 N. Dousman Road. This is the same location residents will use June 15 to cast their ballots in the referendum for village status.
"Rather than have individuals call in questions to town staff every day between now and the referendum, we have set up an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the people involved in the petition," said Henry Elling, Town of Summit manager.
Residents will also receive an informational brochure mailed to all properties in the town. This brochure includes questions that have been asked most frequently, along with responses to these questions.
The incorporation referendum is required by state law as the final step in a decades-long discussion on incorporation of the 24-square mile community.
The current petition for incorporation began in March, 2008. On March 26, 2010, the Wisconsin Incorporation Review Board issued a report recommending in favor of the request. Circuit Court Judge Donald Hassin responded to that recommendation by scheduling the June 15 referendum.
