There are more important issues to worry about then the nickname of a school's mascot that has been used for YEARS and YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to stop censoring everything and worry about: poverty, war, homelessness, no medical insurance, those who go hungry etc... Why is it now all of a sudden (it hasn't actually been recent) the Indian logo and nickname is offensive when is hasn't been for many years in Mukwonago and other schools? It is a waste of money and time...the MHS administration has a wonderful explanation on all their athletic programs and lineups as to the significance of their logo and the importance of the Indian settlers to Wisconsin...it is a wonderful tribute...better that any other school I have seen or coached at who used an Indian logo or nickname! These groups who file complaints should spend their efforts on something more offensive and corrupt than the nickname for MHS and any other school that uses the Indian logo or motto!
Good idea Karen ask the Native Americans themselves... I am a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Chippewa Indians, I am a Chippewa Indian and I DO NOT like the mascot!
what a waste of time and money - people need to get a life and worry about the things that are actually important in this world!
The logo should stay. How insulting for the Native American community that is proud of the images that represent American Culture to be removed and not seen. What is next, remove all books and history with pictures representing American culture.. I say tell the woosies to toughen up and spend energy doing something good for someone else. The logo is creative as well as graphically strong. Which I would think the school would be proud to have this logo. I am not a Native American citizen.
I think the burden of proof should be on the "offended" to prove why this representation of an Indian is more offensive than the accepted and adored ethnic representation of Norte Dame's Fighting Irish mascot. We should never look to the thinnest skinned in our society to be the judge of what is considered offensive. To a hammer, everything is a nail.
How many people are aware of the peer reviewed scientific research that shows these images are harmful to children? How many people here are aware that the Great Lakes Inter Tribal Council - a consortium that represents the 11 Indian Nations of Wisconsin have asked for these logos to be eliminated? Mascots and logos representing American culture? Wow. Using logos/mascots by a school as the basis for its implementation of Act 31 - the state law that mandates schools discuss Wisconsin Tribal History, Sovereignty, and treaty rights? You "Kim" have the right to define what is honorable? "Kim you also argue this is a recent issue - wrong. It had been in the legislature for over 15 years and native groups across the nation have been fighting to eliminate these mascots and logos for over 40 years. People have just begun to listen and learn, unlike so many on these message boards.
Norskies, Flying Dutchmen, Vikings, Crusaders, etc. all can take on a personal moniker to those that are respective descent. Yet these nicknames, and their respective mascots, are seemingly not under scrutiny. What is it that the DPI takes issue with: the mascot or the name? I would highly doubt that a Native American would find the word "Indian" to be racist or offensive. Thus, why not simply require a change in the mascot appearance? Has the DPI sought the input of the various tribes within the state to determine what mascot representation would be accepted by those tribes to be respectful and in honor of the Native American heritage? (Assuming that they have, what were the results?)
Why is it that hard to believe that a race-based mascot could be offensive? It doesn't matter how long it has been in place. Things are often in place for many years, before people realize it is wrong; ex: slavery, segregation... The Indian mascot is the product of a generation that grew up in a period in which Native Americans were not equally treated. The society that brought up the Indian mascot is the same society that taught Native Americans not to be proud of their ancestry. My grandmother is Native American and she remembers wanting to hide the fact that she was Native American; she was ashamed. The only thing Native Americans were given to be proud of was the mascot. The white-society of the era told them that they couldn't be proud to be Native American, but they could be proud that white schools were using them as a mascot. Now we are in the 21st century. Native Americans have moved past being ashamed; they can now be proud of their heritage without society discouraging them. Now lets take the full step and get rid of the Indian mascot, the only symbol whites gave Native Americans of which to be proud. The false pride is not need today. Change the mascot.
I agree the earlier comment contained within the previous "Response" section. There are better things to work on, so let's get this subject off the ledger and deal with larger issues. The research on the subject of race based logos/mascots is clear. There is substantive agreement among national American Indian professional, political, educational organizations and nations against the use of racial representations for sport. This isn't about Native folks in the end, only about two percent of the United Sates population is American Indian. The idea that such a small population in an American democratic society made up of such a diverse population driving the bus on the logo/mascot issue is a red herring. It is others in America that have brought this long simmering issue to it's proper place of recognition, research and resolution. So yes, do the right thing and move on. All our students in schools deserve the ideal of a color blind education, so let's start at the doors of the educational institutions, and do the long hard work inside. Our children are the ones we cheer and hope for, not the mascot.
If the mascot is offensive than change it BUT also take away all the befits that someone that is Native American receives. Receiving befits because of your Native American is offensive to me who is just plain American. Not Polish, German, Asian or whatever just plain American the same as everone else born in American.
More time and money wasted on an unimportant thing. AND What ever happened to "majority rules?" I've always thought it would be an honor to have something named after you...
i guess it is OK for us to spend our money in the casinos' run by the native american indians in WI, but how dare we use their image for a school logo that has been used for YEARS in muk-town and other schools in WI and across the United States!!!!! maybe we all should stop spending money in their casino's...that's much worse than using their image...many casino gamblers can't afford to be spending their money that way...but the native american indians' have no problem with that... again let's spend our energy, time and money on the the important things: gangs, welfare reform, illegal immigration, war, health care reform, term limits of our politicians, homelessness etc...
I don't know of any school or organization that picks a mascot or emblem for which they have contempt or bad feelings. It's time for people to stop trying to find things they think they should be offensive and get on with their lives.
Many here are confused about the law. It is not about offensiveness. The specifically deals with three criterion - does the logo/mascot promote stereotyping, lead to pupil harassment, or discrimination. Also, it is very interesting to hear the "I would be honored" statement in defending the imagery. So "you" have the right to tell native people the definition of honor. Also, "trying to find things they think should be offensive"...Wisconsin tribal nations and others around the country have been speaking out against the use of this imagery for 40 years. So the question should be does the logo promote stereotyping? The peer reviewed, scientific research says that it does. So, one more time, the bill has nothing to do with offensiveness or calling a district or people racist.
I attended Menomonee Falls North High when I was going through High School and never had any problems with it. The strange thing is neither did anyone else.
I was just thinking about this and wondered to myself of this individual who brought this on, how did this mascot and his complaints of being harrassed during school have anything to do with each other. It is the shameful acts of other individuals who would make fun of, tease, etc others because of thier background, ethnic, etc which is just wrong and no one disagrees with that. That is the issue the district needs to be taking up with how to address those issues in the school. I agree that the logo does not protray itself in any kind of derogoratory way and go back to the reason it was picked and created. Look at that, not what one person may think they feel or impression they get from the logo. Keep the logo and drop this issue which is costing way too much money for the state and district and to concentrate on better, more useful ways. Sheesh.
Leave it alone. Majority Rules...
i think it is very racist
I am a half breed and i think it is great. It would depend on the Indian him or herself. It is a proudness that goes with the American Indian culture, something to be proud of our herritage as a country. I feel that the sybolism will give the school and community a sence of this pride as well.
Absolutely NO, it is not offensive. Instead of reading too much into Native American mascots, people (including this current complainant) should understand that when used in a tasteful manner, the Indian mascot is a sign of respect for the Native people and this country's heritage. I still can't believe that Marquette caved to the pressure and changed their name years ago - it's just wrong, and I hate to see more schools change due to that mentality. If a school is using an offensive caricature of a Native American, then I could understand why someone would be offended; however, the Mukwonago logo shows an image of a very proud individual.
My answer would be no, it is not racist or offensive. Of course, anything could be considered offensive by any individual. Why would the image of a strong, mighty, and honorable warrior be offensive? That's just plain juvenile. I happen to be of second generation Norwegian decent, should I be offended by a Viking mascot! Honestly! I would prefer that to the image of a crybaby weakling, I guess. Grow up and stop with the political correctness idiocy.
To add to my previous comment, if this is offensive, we will have to change the names of probably 3/4 of the names in Wisconsin, alone. Wisconsin, Waupaca, Oconomowoc, Mukwonago, etc. are all Indian words. The argument for offensiveness is ridiculous.
I have lived in the Mukwonago area for years and graduated from there as well over 30 years ago. I cannot believe all the hype from this topic. I have never once noticed any disrespect of the use of the Native American mascot. We have respected this mascot forever. No warpaint, hatchets, live mascots with head dresses were ever allowed. Only the beautiful picture of a Native American. For years I have and still attend the football games. Every Friday evening you would watch the players arrive on the field and run up and touch the Native American picture on the announcing booth for good luck and respect. They raise their helmets high to show the proudness of the sport, team, fans, and their name...Mukwonago Indians. How can this be offensive to anyone? When reading on the history of Mukwonago, this land was settled by the Potowatomi and Winnebago Native American tribes. Mukwonago is just showing the heritage of their town. The mascot should remain in the community to show the pride of what our town is all about
I've been a big supporter of keeping the mascot. I, with a friend, conducted an event to wear Indians Merchandise in April. We had a big turnout, and it was fun. Most of us support the mascot, seeing that it is an honor, but then there are some people, who see it offensive. I am part Indian (Choctaw and Chikasaw) and I see the good of the Mascot, not the bad. When we first became the Indians (long long long time ago) I don't think they picked the name to make fun of anyone. It was to show that we were brave and have courage, like an Indian. The Indian mascot is in no way meant to harm or discriminate anybody. Common Sense.. is what we lack this days, and this debate, shows it clearly how much people have little to none.
I am a 1970 graduate of Mukwonago High. I was proud to be an Indian then. I am NOT proud to be an Indian now. Now, I associate being an Indian with being less than ambitious, unable to move on, and whining, whining, whining. The sooner we dump this moniker the better. How about the Mukwonago Phantoms. Are there any spirits out there that will be offended?? I do think that if we were the Mukwonago Caucasians the Indians would be screaming that we were racist and should name a team after them.
I think the names "Milwaukee", "Waukesha", "Oconomowoc", "Kinnickinnic" and a few thousand other place names in Wisconsin are Native American words or names. I don't find any of them offensive. I don't find the MHS mascot or name offensive. I find lawyers who chase this type of lawsuit extremely offensive. They're the only ones who benefit from this crap.
The Indian head mascot is a symbol of the Indians that once lived here. It should serve as a tribute to the American Indian and certainly is NOT offensive, unless you do not like Indians. Removing it would be to dishonor Indians. We DO in fact, study Indians in our schools...should we take away that curriculum as well? One complaint should not be the only voice heard. We are too quick to change everything for fear of offending the few. Some people just have to learn to buck up and accept what has been tradition in this community, state, and country. What, should we also change the name of Mukwonago? Waukesha?
those in favor of course say "all its been that for so many years", "its the democrats and liberals doing" "its too much money and we dont wanna pay for the changes" and yet they're side, forgive my some what over generalization are those who approve millions more to fund a phony war to bomb middleatern towns and settlements back to the stone age. In regards to the argument of its been that way for so long, if I can recall human bondage/slavery was a tradition practiced in American from 1609 to 1865 with untold amounts of cruelty and malice shown to those in bondage as was the legalized murder of African Americans(lynching) in the southern states from 1865 to as recent as the early 1990s. In regards to the Democrats/liberals, i applaud them for wanting to drag this state and country out of the times of intolerance, ignorance, bigotry and utter stupidity and cruelty and bring the state and this country into a bright and happy future so to the conservatives, Native peoples do not like being used as cartoons, mascots, logos, images or nicknames and have as whole sovereign nations condemned and requested and demanded that these names, logos, mascots etc. be retired/removed so the conservative resistance to their requests and their ignorance/denial to the here and now breaks that rule we were all told in pre school, if someone does something that you dont like and are asked to stop doing it, you stop and respect their wishes
I've alway considered mascots to be essentially the same as flags. My thought is that people don't generally design flags to be focal points for mockery. Why then would a school use an icon that invites mockery or contempt on themselves? As to the innate nature of this image, I've never found the sight of a strong masculine man to be offensive.
No it should not be offensive. It shows pride in our heritage!
Corrupt power must be dealt with with wit and intelligence. 1. Have your high school use no mascot and proudly proclaim Mukuonago as Mukuonago. In the movie depicting the Marshall football team that had a plane crash the proclaimed, We are Marshall 2. Make Tony Evers of DPI and his staff pick out a logo for your high school. If he doesn't personally demad that he does. Those the rattle sabres need to have them rattled back. You picking out a new mascot anything other than a Bear is a discrace to the name mukuonago which one meaning or sub meaning is a bear or bear trap.
It is offensive. Not as bad as "Chief Wahoo" in Cleveland, but still a bad idea. There are other, better, options for nicknames for MHS teams. One of them should be chosen and this 40 year old debate should be laid to rest.
Mukwonago Schools educators are stuck in 1996 they do not want to move forward. They refuse to accept the ever mounting evidence that show these logos/images/mascots harm our children! Go ahead laugh, roll your eyes but before you do, do what even the majority of teachers in Mukwonago won't do... educate yourself, read the research. All you have to do is google Indian Mascots. "We honor the Indians" is no longer a viable defense.
The young man is often in ridicule of his own beliefs by encompassing the same behavior. The attention he did not receive as a student is now being used as a tool to gain the proper recognition that he feels he is due.
These images do not harm children. You'll find them in books about Indians. Its not a cartoon image....its not making fun at all. This in no way compares at all to slavery, lynching, or cruelty to a person. Come on... This whole thing could easily be a skit on SNL: Really? Are you serious?
Is Fire Chief wrong? Police Chief? Some thief on a ship gonna take offense from Pewaukee Pirates? Kettle M. Lasers....HMMM, lets see....Star Wars intolerance? Have a bear mascot? PETA would think it cruelty to animals somehow. And it might just create maladjusted cubs who couldn't interact well with polarbears or pandas. What about a clown mascot? (Might offend some comedians.) If a mascot falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, ARE WE STILL POLITICALLY INCORRECT?
Seriously, can we just move on and worry about more important issues. My high school mascot used to be a Trojan. Gosh, do you think that in today's world we would have to change that because of suggestive purposes? In our sue happy world...many parents would have probably thought we were proposing safe sex in high school....
I guess Milwaukee needs to change the names of all their racist summer festivals...
Absolutely not. Some people are just looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Racism today may be more about those who try to keep it alive by complaining about it all the time.
No way, who would ever think that their name/mascot is considered recist! They do nothing but honor the rich haratige of the indian people. What's next baning the use of Cheif when refering to the police or fire chief.
People have too much time on their hands, and need to find important things to spend time on.
I think that the Indian as a mascot can be compared to the Viking, the Celtic, and the Fighting Irish. Once these were warrior peoples and are well used as mascots for sports teams. Native Americans should be no more hurt by the use of their proud heritage as a mascot than Norwegians, Irish, or Scotsmen.
I think it is time to become the Grizzlys. We are the village of the bears. To heck with the indians if they don't want to be honored as we have done for years.
I think it is totally wrong. The Indian name and Masot logo are a tribute to the Indian nations. Mukwonago was a town founded by the Indians and I believe this shows respect.
I dont think it is. the picture isnt in anyway making the Native Americans look negative. I was upset when Arrowhead changed its name and logal. Im Irish should I be offened by Noter Damess mascot?
seenitall I hope you dont take this the wrong way. but why than dont we rename cities like Waukesha, isnt that an Indian word. You cant get it both ways
If it wasn't offensive, you could call it Palinski's
The Potowatomi have stated through Debbie Gauthier that they are not offended by the word Indian, only the fact that the term Mascot de-humanizes, Debbie is Chippewa.
I find it offensive that mascots used for years are now politically incorrect. We live in a diversified country and should be able to respect any mascot from any origin. Native americans are a huge part of Wisconsin history.
The only thing that offends me is people who waste time and money going aroundseeing who they can sue today. You are not preventing problems. You create problems Get a life! Have you ever attended an Indians- Chargers game? Do you even know who they are? Someday, because of your meddling, we will read that the Chargers beat the Golden Eagle droppings, but the score won't be reported because it may offend people who are mathematically challenged.
This Indian logo has been with Mukwonago since the begining of time, why now have a problem with it and why worry about something as miniscule as that?? There are plenty of other things to worry about like poverty, orphans, children needing adoption, homelessness; why not focus your time figuring out how you can help someone who actually needs it rather than some schools mascot and how you take offense to it. Move on! Mukwonago Indians is who we are and the Mukwonago Indians is who we will stay!
No it is not racist or offensive. It is an honor to named a mascot. Look at Florida State. The seminloles view at as a way to keep the warrior spirit alive.
It's time for the Indians to become Americans and not a separate group within America. The Indians have been handed too much for too long. Time for the relatives (ancestors?) to take responsibility and not take hand outs from the government and stop pushing discrimination.
yes
Leave it alone...all words and symbols have multiple meanings.. look at the positive and stop dwelling on the negatives... oh, and get a life
I am a Mukwonago High School graduate and I never found the logo to be offensive. However, must of us are not aware of our ingrained prejudices and just because we do not think we are prejudice does not mean we are not. What would happen if Mukwonago changed its name to the Blacks, the Caucasians or how about the Hispanics. Can you imagine the out cry. Just because Native Americans are a small percentage of the overall population, does not mean we can ignore the prejudice towards this group. The word Indian itself comes from a derogatory term for Native Americans so how can you say it is not prejudice. Wake up people and start realizing we are prejudice and we need to start changing for the good of all man kind.
Absolutely not! Things have gotten out of hand with issues like this. What happen to people being proud of their heritage and having school spirit as well.
Take a deep breath. In a couple of years this whole issue will be in the past and forgotten about. The use of Indian language for citiy's and the like will not be affected. Imagery and the portrail of American Indians is what is objected to and offensive. For those of you who find mascots to be non-offensive it because you are not Indian. You'll get used to it.
ABSOLUTLY NOT!!! American Indians are the Original inhabitants of What we know now as America. It is HONORABLE to have a team named after the first inhabitant's of North America. Learn Your History of America Folks! Wife of a Cherokee Heratige AND a granddaughter also Charokee grandaughter. NATIVE AMERICAN PRIDE is is "Rockin On"
This is totally sterotypical. I would be embarrassed if my children went to this school. I am Potawatomi tribal member from Oklahoma. I used to live in Michigan and think the people of Michigan should be proud that there state actually cares about racially insensitive mascots. Many of the answers on this page show why this is so important. Some of you point out the redskins and as if one wrong makes a right. This is completely inapropriate and stereotypes all indian people. To act like this is an honor to Potawatomi is even more insulting. We didnt live in teepees and we didnt have war bonnets. So that arguement is even more insulting and shows why this is so damaging to indian people. When people go to games and dress u like indians and beat drums and wear war bonnets as if all indians wear them this is exstremely stereotypical. People who think these teams are named to honor a people who name the school the blacks and then maybe they can paint their faces black etc. Or maybe call them the irish and how bout a man carrying a bottle of booze cause we all know irish people are drunks. What do you think?
This should not even be an issue. Its wrong to objectify Native Americans especially coming from a culture who has historically caused them a great deal of harm. If this bothers one kid there thats Native American thats all that matters. How dare the administration allow this to continue. If this has a negative psychological effect on one kid is that enough? It is to me. I will say I know for a fact it has bothered more than this single kid. It bothers people in my family who attended MHS too. The whole idea behind having a warchief (which is what the image depicts) reinforces the idea of savage warriors on the warpath to destroy their enemy (the opposing team in MHS's case.) This is tradtionally exactly the way white culture has always depicted and consequently viewed Native Americans. This type of garbage has a direct effect on Native Americans both in your school and outside. By objectifying Native Americans with your imagery and team name your desensitizing white generations to legit Native American cultural issues. Look at the comments on some of these websites ...the ignorance is a direct result of schools like MHS who refuse to change. You people need to understand the problem is not just the logo or the team name its all the stereotypical comments and attitudes they help to fuel... these stereotypes and attitudes don't even need to be malicious to have a negative effect on people. I also wanted to add that it doesnt matter if this kid looks white or not he is Native American and identifies with this part of his heritage strongly. If it makes people out there feel any better maybe his mother or father or grandparents or uncles looks just like the MHS mascot... maybe thats whats bothering this kid? Your mascot looks like someone he loves, a heritage he loves, and hates the way you represent it. Hmmm that makes sense to me because thats the way I feel about it too.
Absolutely not. I think it is a tribute to the American Indian, and I am proud to use it. I am of Native American descent, and am proud to be a part of this Mukwonago tradition.
Ok im Samantha and alot of people know me by the name skitts and go to the Mukwonago High School. My great G-ma went to that high school and her childrens chrildrens been comin to the mukwonago high school. that school has been the mukwonago indians for years and now just because of some little cry baby makes a complaint about our name and now we have to change our logo and our mascot. THAT'S CRAP. Just because of one person we have to change our schools name. No. There are other people that have opions about this schhol they love the Indians nothing will ever replace the mukwonago Indians expecually not some gabage name bears. Students of the mukwonago high school and grown ups will stand with us and fight to stay as the mukwonago Indians. Once a Mukwonago Indian always a mukwonago Indian. We will fight for our schools name and mascot and we wont back down. Put that in your book of laws. Mukwonago Indians for life:)
Why is the behavior of this little boy omitted ? That, not his ethnicity brought this action on. I have read and spoken to many who say that this boy just set himself apart. He was offensive in his actions and spoken words to other students. All people are results of the mannerisms and language that they use.He set himself apart but where did it get him? I wish him luck in the future for his inter-personal skills will either limit his abilities or will bring him into a populace such as himself. How will he be able to relate to others who are characteristically the same, Time will tell.
I guess it is time to erase all reference to any and all Native Americans in the United States. Remove all information from the text books, the television, newspapers, advertising, everything. Unless it is on their lands. Hmmm, how are they going to advertise their casinos? Casinos and gambling are offensive to many people of faith, so lets change the Wisconsin constitution back to prohibit gambling, lotteries, and raffles. Oh would they cry if we shut down their casinos. Where does it end? What about the Vikings, the Trojans, Spartans?
The person who filed the complaint was in direct contrast by his behavior to the complaint itself It should have been thrown out
When the complaining party displays behavior that is in conflict with the charge he has brought forth, the complaint should have been thrown out for contradictory motive and display of the same by his actions, The vest with the Western depiction of an Indian warrior which only states that he too views all Native Americans as INDIANS without distinction.

It's not anything new people. The Native Americans HAVE been asking for offensive mascots and name changes for YEARS, BUT it's only now, after a Native American student is harrassed at school, that anything is being done about it. Should he have to endure hearing racial slurs because of his background and beliefs? The discrimination is not as far removed from our generation as we may think. My grandfather was half Algonquin and went to MHS and he was TOLD by a football coach "no indians allowed" on the football team. He had to keep his heritage a secret to be included. How very sad that we still don't seem to be able to find understanding and compassion for each other in this day and age. I understand some people in Mukwonago may see the logo as a kind of "tradition." Things change: Traditionally African Americans were not allowed to ride in the front of a public bus, attend school or even EAT in the same area as a white person. It was a tradition in the early 20th century to see how many wolves you could kill, because they were filthy ravenous beasts...come to find out they were a necessary constituent of the ecosystem. We tell people to "get over it" or that they are being "too sensitive." If the situation was reversed and MHS was "Cracker Country" instead of "Indian Country" I think the change would most certainly be warranted. What we should be working on is to educate, empathize and energize ourselves and fellow man.
Oh jeez people if you really are so offended by this you really have to be kidding me IT IS JUST A PICTURE please tell how it is "offensive" how can you be offended By a picture? I could see if they were actually making fun of Indians or had an actual dressed up Indian mascot but no it is just a picture! I am not offended by pictures of mustaches mexicans in sombreros, why should I that's how some mexicans look. It is just an image! I find it hard to believe that anyone is actually "offended" by this people just want to start something that there is no need to start.
I grew up i Mukwonago, moved away and came back to RAISE my family here. MUKWONAGO INDIANS are not racist at all - In fact they should be PROUD to be the logo of such an AWESOME community. If the indians logo is offensive then I guess you need to change every name of streets, counties, citys, etc. because when you live in WI you have INDIAN in everything. GET OVER IT! Mukwonago Indians are here to stay - no matter what!!!!! I LIVE IN MUKWONAGO, THEREFORE, I AM AN INDIAN - and proud of it!
I THINK THAT, IF YOU USE NATIVE AMERICANS AS A LOGO/MASCOT, IT WOULD BE A SIGN OF STRENGTH AND BRAVERY! LIKE HOW PEOPLE USE TIGERS AND BEARS FOR LOGOS!! IM NATIVE AMERICAN MYSELF, AND I AM PROUD THAT SCHOOLS ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY USE THE NATIVE LOGO, BECAUSE WE ARE STRONG AND BRAVE!! ALL OF US!! NATIVES WHO THINK OTHERWISE NEED TO QUIT SMOKING DOPE! IM PROUD TO BE A MASCOT!!
Thats kinda stupid, the new logo is phantoms, they put up the sign today 5/18/2011 it has a led board, yet the logo looks like casper the ghost.
The definition of racism is believing one's own race is superior over anothers and having a right to rule. It also involves hatred or intolerance towards a race. Please explain to me how using the Indian name for a mascott is racist. Are we not honoring the Mukwonago heritage??? I'd really like to know, how much of this punk kid's Indian background he really knows. And I wonder if he checked the box on his college applications that he is Indian to get more money to go to school. Thinking you should have special treatment because you are a particular race is the definition of racism.
What about thr Hurley Midgets
I believe it is a tribute to the Native inhabitants of this country. It not only has cemented a lasting verification of the tribes but has also maintained in reference the history and existence of this culture. It gives the name INDIAN or INDIANS a significant right of passage in American history. Like any culture, difficulties in survival are a common fact of life.Yet they did. There are many prominent successful Native Americans in this country. There are those who oppose the logo and it's use and there are many in support saying that not all recognition of us has been lost.Listen to all who have interest in this issue
