School board

The Merton School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, in the little theater at Merton Intermediate School.


Merton School thanks the following staff members who are leaving or retiring: Amy DeGrace, Speech; Karen Taylor, fourth-grade; Angie Schallhorn, kitchen; Allison Broerman, Special Education; Tami Batayias, Kindergarten; Amandy Biondo, Kindergarten; Kay Maynard, 6/7 Math; Barb Seeboth, 7/8 Language Arts; Stephanie Wieczorek, Library/IT.

Bike adventure

A day of competitive mountain bike races and a family and friends ride to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs will be hosted by Wheel and Sprocket on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Camp Whitcomb/Mason, W294 N8436 Camp Whitcomb Road. There will also be other activities for all ages, including archery, ropes course, canoeing, swimming, petting farm and more. The kids' ride will be at 8 a.m., competitive races at 9 a.m., family ride at 11:30 a.m. and family activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children interested in playing travel baseball or fast-pitch should note the following dates: Mavericks second- through eighth-grade and U10 and U12 Fillies evaluations will be July 26 to 28; U14 Fillies on August 10 and 11; and U16 and U18 Fillies on Aug. 5 and 7. Last day of the Merton School year, Thursday, June 13, dismissal at noon. Parents should pick up their children's medications in the school office before the end of the year and also check the lost-and-found. School will resume Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Summer school, first session runs Mondays through Thursdays, June 17 to July 3, at Merton School.

Vacation Bible school for all children who have completed 4K through sixth-grade will be offered from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 17 to 21, at First Baptist Church of Merton, N65 W28217 Hickory Hill Drive. Lake Keesus Advancement Association, family picnic and meeting, Friday, June 14, at the home of Ken and Mimi Touhey. Food will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7:15 p.m.
