Junior Woman's Club donates $5,000

Oconomowoc Junior Woman's Club (OWJC) held its holiday banquet Dec. 7. Several area community members and organizations were invited to attend to have a photo taken as their donation was awarded. In addition, members donated more than $300 at the November general meeting to buy gifts for two families of single moms with three children being supported by People against Domestic Abuse in Jefferson County (PADA).

$500 donations were awarded to: Lake Area Free Clinic - Jean Neal received the check with member Sara Staszak, Oconomowoc Girl Scouts of America, food pantry and the Emergency Medical Services for Children fund to equip state ambulances with pediatric equipment which was spearheaded by Elizabeth Davy and current president Melissa Kimball. Lastly, the Oconomowoc High School's Student 4 Service organization had several members and their advisor explain their Cambodia school fundraising project. Members Sara Staszak and Karen Kjensrud S4S reps, advisor Pete Peterson and students Kelsey Vonderlinn, Mckenzie Valley, Paige Margnik, Francis Way, Joe Stigney and Katie Stahre were awarded a donation.

Friends of Imagination Station committee members Michele Fuehrer, Cathy Schreiber and Kia LaBracke received a donation for $400 toward the handicapped accessible bathrooms fund.

Carl and Pauline Duch were present to receive a donation for $250 for the Oconomowoc Area Senior Center along with president Melissa Kimball. Also, more than $250 was set aside to purchase twin size bedspreads or other needed items for the client of the month project of the Volunteers of Lake Country Organization. Volunteer Sandra Waterhouse was present to receive the check with member Sandy Gitter. At a fall general meeting money was also donated to the Dudley family after a house fire.

Checks for $200 were donated to: Jodi Schlender, member Michele Klages and daughter Magi on behalf of Special Olympics of Waukesha, Dennis Ballman, Lesley Larsen-Kountz, Ginger Gates-Sudol with daughter Mina on behalf of the Oconomowoc Fire Department.

Elizabeth Hanson and People against Domestic and Sexual Abuse committee members Debbie Newman and Elizabeth Davy received a donation.

A donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was given to two members who have a family member battling the disease - Marie and her daughter Lisa Marie Hedrick-Arenas.

Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin in support of Autism Awareness and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin's Child Abuse Prevention Fund received $200, as well as The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease in recognition of Kathy Regan and her daughter Regan Stultz who were presented the check.

In addition, $100 was donated to Imagination Station in honor of Missy Hehn, to the education fund for the sons of Jan Mulcahy who are former members that recently died, and The Tyme Out Youth Center in Stone Bank. Gas cards were donated to the Eiken/Long families to support their care of a teenage daughter severely injured in a car accident over Thanksgiving weekend.

The Oconomowoc Junior Woman's club, established in 1971, is dedicated to serving the surrounding community through broad-based fundraising and hands-on volunteering efforts.
