Annual yule food drive begins
The food pantries have sounded the alarm: More and more families with children in need … record numbers of people seeking help … more donations needed.
Lake Country, our charge is clear. It's time to rise to the occasion and help the four local food pantries with the annual Yule Feed Families drive.
Since its inception in 1991, Yule Feed Families has raised $233,308 and collected 40,222 grocery items in Lake Country alone. A partnership of Lake Country Publications and Lake Country Rotary, Yule Feed Families benefits the Hartland, Pewaukee, Kettle Moraine and North Lake food pantries.
Last year, as the recession was ramping up, giving set a record, with $31,297 collected in cash alone, plus 566 groceries.
But this year, the fallout from that national recession is being felt around the dinner table for many local families, often those with young mouths to feed.
So how can you help? Donations sent to Yule Feed Families will be matched at the rate of 70 cents on the dollar (40 cents for each grocery items) for cash contributions by Lake Country Rotary and Lake Country Publications, up to $2,000 for each organization.
Donating is simple, but some of the details have changed this year. Simply mail or drop off your donations at Lake Country Country Publications, 810 Cardinal Lane, Suite 200, P.O. Box 200, Hartland, WI 53029. (Note the new address.) Checks must be made out to the individual food pantries or Lake Country Foundation. (Please do not make out checks to Yule Feed Families or Lake Country Publications directly.) Lake Country Foundation is a fully tax-deductible entity that works closely with Lake Country Rotary.
The deadline for contributions is noon Monday, Dec. 21. We'll keep you updated weekly as to how we are progressing.
