Dorow to run in 33rd

Larry Krause drops out of race

Representing the approximately 45,000 households of the 33rd Assembly District is, "the highest honor you could have, along with the sense of responsibility and obligation representing this group of citizens to make sure their needs are met," said Brian Dorow, in explaining his decision to run for the seat in the fall election.

Dorow's announcement to run Monday follows Town of Delafield resident Larry Krause's decision to drop out of the race. Krause issued a statement Monday saying it was the best decision for him and his family not to run at this time, though he will still serve as a supervisor on the Delafield Town Board and as a commissioner on the Lake Pewaukee Sanitary District

Dorow will face off against incumbent Scott Newcomer and challengers Joe Deklotz and Chris Kapenga.

Dorow, his wife, Jennifer and children, Michael, 7, and Jonathan, 6, have called the 33rd home for the last several years, living in Delafield. They are members of Westbrook Church, and the children attend Lake Country Elementary School. Dorow works as the associate dean of Waukesha County Technical College's Department of Criminal Justice, Center for Law Enforcement, Homeland Security and Counter-Terrorism Initiatives.

Dorow is also involved with nearly a dozen community programs and leadership initiatives, including Boy Scouts of America, Waukesha County GOP, YMCA, Waukesha County Community Fund, Mental Health Association of Waukesha County, Waukesha Youth Collaboration, Rotary and the U.S. Army Citizens Advisory Group.

He said he's been interested in getting involved in politics for the last 20 years. He said over the last few months, he has done his "due diligence," which includes securing enough support in and out of the district to make his candidacy viable.

Dorow was voted Waukesha's Citizen of the Year in 2008, which he said was solely based on his work on the Waukesha Police Department, where he served as sergeant for 10 years.

Dorow said his platform is to create jobs which would include working with business owners or community leaders to make sure the district has the resources it needs to support job creation.

"I will also tie my platform to issues statewide including the economy, healthcare, education and energy," Dorow said.

"We need to be able to attract businesses to the 33rd to set up shop and we need to have employment opportunities for the people that live here," he said.

The public is invited to Dorow's campaign kickoff event at noon Wednesday, March 3, at Marty's Pizza in Delafield, 2580 Sun Valley Drive. Visit www.BrianDorow.com after the kickoff event.
