Brighten the night at Hartland Lights

Downtown business owners are inviting the community to mark the start of the holiday season this Friday at Hartland Lights, the village's annual tree lighting ceremony.

While the tree lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m., the evening's events will kick off with a children's parade of presents before the lighting. Children are invited to create and dress in a gift package costume and meet at Illustrations Photography, 235 E. Capitol Drive, between 6 and 6:15 p.m. The parade will start at 6:15 p.m. and end at the Christmas tree, which stands on Hill Street just west of Cottonwood Avenue.

Village President David Lamerand will flip the switch to light the Christmas tree at 6:30 p.m. Carolers from St. Charles Catholic Church will entertain crowds from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. while Santa hands out candy canes to children.

After the tree lighting, community members are invited to visit more than 15 local businesses and organizations that will be offering entertainment, treats and shopping specials. Free trolley rides will run from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include a host sharing information about each of the stops.

Visitors will be able to:

Enjoy Christmas choral and instrumental performances, singalong caroling, beverages and homemade treats from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 415 W. Capitol Drive.

Have a professional photo taken with Santa at Illustrations Photography, 235 E. Capitol Drive.
