Church proposed in Chenequa

But annexation into Nashotah possible

Village of Chenequa - The congregation of Lake Country Bible Church, which currently conducts services at Lake Country School on Vettelson Road in the City of Delafield, began this week what could be a complicated approval process for the construction of a new church.

Church officials presented to the Chenequa Village Plan Commission and Village Board on Tuesday night preliminary plans for a building that would house a church sanctuary, office space and meeting rooms on about 10 acres the church owns on Watertown Plank Road on a dead end at the east end of the road.

The property is within the Village of Chenequa even though the land is on the south side of Highway 16 and abuts the northeast border of the Village of Nashotah.

In addition to zoning approval for the Village of Chenequa, the church is also hoping to be annexed into the Village of Nashotah, according to the Rev. Sal Massa, senior pastor for the church.

Massa explained that the church wants to annex into Nashotah so it will have access to sanitary sewer services provided the village by the Delafield-Hartland Water Pollution Control Commission.

The sewer main serving Nashotah ends at the church's property line, according to Massa.

Chenequa trustees

Massa anticipates that the church sanctuary will have of capacity of about 250. He said weekly attendance at the church currently averages about 160 to 170 worshippers.

Massa said he does not know when construction on the new church will begin. He said the church is still raising funds for the building project. He also noted the congregation is in "very preliminary" stages of design for the building and needs approval from the Village of Chenequa and possibly Nashotah.

He also said he is not sure how the building plans would be affected if the church was unable to get Nashotah approval on a proposed annexation.

Chenequa Village President Robert Foote Jr. said he did not anticipate Chenequa village approval of the constructions plans this week.

"We are only in the reviewing process," he said.
