Holiday Train roars into Hartland on Saturday bringing good will
Event raises cash, collects items for food pantries
Village of Hartland - The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is scheduled to roll into town at 9:10 p.m. on Saturday ready to entertain the crowds with its festive lights and musical performances.
But the train is coming to Hartland to do more than entertain.
Its primary purpose is to raise awareness of hunger issues and money for food pantries in the 150 communities it will visit in the U.S. and Canada.
For this year's Holiday Train event, the Hartland Chamber of Commerce has set a goal of raising $12,000, plus thousands of pounds of food. The chamber has planned a series of activities around the train's arrival to bring people downtown.
From 7 to 9 p.m., downtown business owners will join together at Lake Country Martial Arts, 350 Cottonwood Ave., to host face painting, Christmas stories, free cookies, music and fire-spinning demonstrations.
From 8 to 10 p.m., at the train tracks just west of Cottonwood Avenue, activities will include Christmas caroling, appearances by Santa and free hot chocolate and popcorn. Free elf glow wands or glowing reindeer noses will be given out with a monetary donation to the food pantry.
The train is scheduled to arrive in Hartland at 9:10 p.m., but the actual arrival time could change slightly, depending on how earlier stops adhere to the schedule. The Chamber advises that people interested in seeing just the train arrive about 15 minutes early.
Entertainers on the train this year will include Canadian country music singer Tracey Brown as well as The Claytones, a group whose bio describes their music as "country-soaked roots music."
This will be the Holiday Train's fifth visit to Hartland. The Hartland visit, the train's only stop in Waukesha County, will be the train's fourth stop of the day,starting with its first performance in Gurnee, Ill., at 4:30 p.m. The 14-car train, which is about 1,000 feet long, is bedecked with more than 100,000 LED lights.
