Lisbon hires Internet pay service for taxes
Town of Lisbon - Real estate taxpayers will have the option of paying their taxes in 2012 and 2013 via mail, in person at Town Hall, or using a debit card, credit card, or e check payment with Point & Pay, a Florida-based Internet payment service.
The Town Board voted unanimously on Nov. 12 to make the Internet service available to town taxpayers. Town residents will be charged a fee by the Internet service based on the method and amount of their tax bill payment.
"We are still providing taxpayers with option of paying their tax bills at Town Hall," emphasized newly appointed Town of Lisbon Treasurer Nicole Lipske.
She also emphasized that the town does not receive any portion of the service fee that is being charged by Point & Pay.
There is a flat fee of $3.95 for payment of the taxes by debit card. There is a fee of 2.39 percent of the total bill paid via credit card and $1.50 fee for an e-check payment of up to $9,999. There is a $10 fee for any e-check payment over $10,000, according to Lipske.
Lipski said she is anticipating tax bills will be in the mail by the second week in December. There will be a letter accompanying the tax bill that will explain to Lisbon residents how the Internet payment system works and the web address to access the payment system. There will also be link from the Town Hall website to the Point & Pay's website, she said.
The tax bills can be paid in one or two installments.
In addition to serving as the part-time treasurer for the Town of Lisbon, Lipski is also part-time treasurer for the Town of Erin in Washington County.
Lispki said the Town of Erin has used Internet electronic bill-paying services for real-estate taxes for several years.
She recommended the Lisbon Town Board use a similar electronic bill paying service.
"For the time being, it will be for real-estate taxes only. We want to see how that works first," she said.
Lipski is a former Lisbon resident who was hired by the Town Board in July to replace Treasurer Rebecca Plotecher, who retired.
She is a 1988 graduate of Hamilton High School. She is a certified public account with a degree in accounting and finance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
She and her husband, Kevin, have four children and live in Erin.
