Man accused of attacking pregnant girlfriend in Pewaukee
Village of Pewaukee - Village of Pewaukee Police officers chased down and fought a local man, 19, in the icy Pewaukee River after he allegedly attacked a pregnant woman Nov. 30.
According to the criminal complaint, filed Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court, the man went to the Pewaukee woman's home at about 6 a.m., carrying a large bottle of whiskey, three-quarters gone. The woman, five months pregnant with the man's child, was living with her mother.
The complaint alleges that the couple argued and the man began to kick the woman in the hip and buttocks before placing his hands around her neck and attempting to choke her. The woman screamed, and her mother separated the two and eventually escorted the man outside. Shortly thereafter, he broke a side window on the house, the complaint said.
The complaint says the man fled on foot in back of the residence. He reportedly saw the squad car and was ordered to stop but continued to run from police, at some point losing his hooded sweatshirt and a shoe. He fled into a wooded area before going onto ice near the Pewaukee River. The complaint noted that officers chose not to use a Taser on the man for fear he would fall into the river.
The complaint added that after the officer got a hold of him, the man began to kick and swing his arms at the deputy. Even as other officers arrived, the man reportedly yelled profanities and continued to strike at them before the police used their Tasers. The complaint said he spat at the officers before they took him away in handcuffs.
An officer suffered an abrasion and gashes to his left hand and a large abrasion and gash on his right chin, according to the complaint.
Officers noted that the man appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
If convicted of the repeat offenses for domestic abuse (strangulation and suffocation, disorderly conduct) he could face $11,000 in fines and more than 10 years in jail. For the repeat offenses of battery of a peace officer, throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker, resisting an officer causing a soft tissue injury and obstructing an officer, he faces additional fines up to $40,000 and more than 23 years in jail, if he is convicted.
