Nashotah is home for new church
Church land in Chenequa will be annexed to Nashotah
Village of Chenequa - Representatives of the Lake Country Bible Church will likely seek permission to build a new church on Watertown Plank Road from the Village of Nashotah rather than the Village of Chenequa.
The proposed 11-acre site is at a dead end on the east end of Watertown Plank Road, south of Highway 16, in the Village of Chenequa. However, the property abuts the Village of Nashotah and a Hartland-Delafield Water Pollution Control Commission sewer main.
Church officials told the Chenequa Plan Commission and Village Board last week that they intend to construct a 20,000-square-foot church sanctuary, office and meeting rooms on the site. However, they said they would like the land annexed into the Village of Nashotah so the church could connect to the sewer main rather than rely on a private septic system.
Chenequa village trustees indicated at their meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, that they would allow the land to be annexed into the Village of Nashotah provided the structure was designed and built according to Chenequa environmental, building and land use regulations.
Nashotah Village President Rich Lartz said Nashotah officials would be willing to incorporate Village of Chenequa standards into a conditional use permit that Nashotah would issue the church if the land were annexed into Nashotah.
Chenequa Village Trustee Susan Wilke said it "makes sense" for Chenequa to allow the land to be annexed into Nashotah in order for the church to avoid the costs of building a private septic system rather than connecting to an existing sewer system "as long as we have input" on the design and construction of the building.
Chenequa Village President Robert Foote Jr. suggested representatives from the church and two municipalities meet and define the terms of the conditional use permit before the church officials seek formal application of the permit from Nashotah village officials.
Foote said the conditional use permit would "create a lovely church which meets the environmental and building standards of both communities."
An estimated 160 to 170 worshippers attend the church's weekly services at the Lake Country School on Vettelson Road in the City of Delafield, according to Rev. Sal Massa.
Massa said the new sanctuary will be designed for a capacity of about 250 people.
