OASD hires firm for superintendant search
Oconomowoc Area School District - An Illinois search firm has been tapped by the Oconomowoc School Board to find the successor to Superintendent Pat Neudecker, who will retire at the end of the school year.
Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates was one of four firms invited to submit proposals to the board.
Board President Don Wiemer said the firm stood out for several reasons.
"The board was impressed with the person who will be working with the board, Kim Perkins. He is a very pleasant person who we think will be well respected when he goes out and interviews the community, staff, community leaders gathering information on what attributes or skills are needed in the new superintendent," he said.
"Also, the company does a tremendous amount of work on screening the applicants, including the initial interviews, reducing the pool down to about 20. They also do an extensive background checks and verifications on claimed education achievements," Wiemer added.
The contract is for $17,500, plus the cost of advertising, which Wiemer said was "pretty much in the ballpark."
He said the proposals ranged from "$17,500 down to $13,00, but there was a lot that were a la carte," he said, noting that one firm wanted the board to do all the reference phone calls itself.
The firm of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates has worked previously with the School District. In 1998 the district retained its services in its search to hire a replacement for outgoing Superintendent John Graves.
Wiemer said all the search firms indicated that the Oconomowoc superintendent position would generate a lot of interest from candidates.
"We were told by all four companies that we will draw great applicants because of the reputation of our School District and what has been going on here, as well as the continued growth in students," he said.
"They all said we have a lot going for us to generate interest, and we will draw from all over the United States," he added.
Wiemer said the firm will use an online community survey to determine what district residents want in a new superintendent.
Wiemer said the board will work with the firm to create a timetable for the hiring process.
